The Si'rin

(also known as the Siren)

"Sirens, or Si'rin in the Daemonic tongue, are sea-faring Daemon who are known for their beautiful voices and appearances. Whereas The Kin'ra were seen as devils, Sirens were seen as angels, and a fictional feud between the two has raged on for centuries in human literature. Only the Daemon themselves know that to be either true or false."
---Loreto Alvarez, 'Beyond the Wall: An Architectural Approach to Ancient Civilizations'

Basic Information

Biological Traits

A Si'rin is identified by three main traits: a half-humanoid face with a beak, feathers as integument, and digitigrade legs capped with talons. They are the only Daemon subrace without horns, which led many to believe that they were a separate race altogether.

Elemental Acuity

Si'rin have an average attunement to the elements, and are capable of minimal amounts of hypnosis and coercion. They, like The Kin'ra, are capable of transofming their body, but they are limited to only humanoid and avian forms even at Superadultdom.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Si'rin are considered the "neutral" Caste of Daemon in Daemonic society, and hold positions of power up to doctor and military positions. They are the Daemon mostly seen as serving underneath The Kin'ra as either Lieutenants of their Domain's military or as apothecaries. Outside of these positions, Si'rin are middle-class merchants, teachers, and artisans of their trade. It is widely believed that the craftsmanship that is the most "bang for your buck" are gotten from a Si'rin.

Facial characteristics

A Si'rin's face is seen to be the most adjacent to human visages in comparison to the other Daemon. In place of their nose, there is a beak, and underneath that beak is a lower lip like that of a human's. The beak's underside isn't fully concave, indicating that it has an evolutionary purpose. Excluding the lower jaw and area around the lower lip, a Sirin's head is covered entirely in feathers, and their eyes are one-for-one the same as birds of prey.

Naming Traditions

Si'rin are typically only named twice in a lifetime: one name when they are born, and a second name when they hit adolescence. A Si'rin infant's name is based on the date, time, and element of the Child, their Parent(s), or even the Domain they are born in. There is a shorthand for these infant names, however: the element of their Parent(s), then the suffix ba [child].   When a Si'rin has reached adolescence, they are given a more descriptive name based on the Child's actions, personalities, or interests. This name can be influenced by the petnames given to the Child by their neighbors and Domain-kin. The structure of the name is usually a full phrase, spoken in The Daemonic Language's Avian dialect.   Similar to Kin'ra, if a Si'rin reaches Superadulthood, they may get an honorary title. Most Si'rin capable of this feat gain titles associated with combat or teaching, as they are the most likely to participate in these fields, but some are known to become ritual scarrers or even Seers. Unlike Kin'ra, however, Si'rin do retain their previous names, and are only referred to by their Superadult names in situations that would call for it.
Some name examples:
Infant: Boba, Foba, Kiveba, Piba, Leba
Adolescent: A'to'ha, Bora'n'di, Ha'pi'thi, Yu'nen
Superadult: Gazimra, Kimcharin, Tokulira

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Si'rin, like all Daemon, speak The Daemonic Language, and near-exclusively speak the Avian dialect within their flocks. Si'rin with political or military positions know, and speak, Standard, but opt for Avian whenever possible.
