Fiera
Demographics
Dwarves make up the majority of the lower class, while elves make up the majority of the upper and middle classes. Humans can be found scattered throughout, though they are most common in the middle class.
This division in the population is due to the city's complex history of racial relations between elves and other races. This history goes as far back as the origins of the Elvish Empire. While prejudice and stereotypes are not nearly as blatant as they were back then, they have still ingrained deeply on society and make adequate change difficult.
Defences
Five guarded gates lead into the caverns of the city. The gates are made of reinforced steel of excellent craftsmanship, and have a series of powerful enchantments placed on them to render then all but unbreakable. The gates can be dropped at a moments notice, sealing off the city from the outside world.
However, Fiera's greatest defense is also its greatest weakness. Should the gates have to be closed for a long period of time, it would not take long for the trapped inhabitants to starve to death. The caves are self-sufficient to an extent, but they still must rely on outside trade, especially for food, in order to survive. This is especially true about the lowest tier.
As the home of the Queen, Fiera is also home to a large piece of the Fidan army. Roads are patrolled by guards at night, and the five gates are always defended.
Industry & Trade
Fiera's biggest imports are livestock and other animal products, since raising anything bigger than a chicken doesn't work well within the caverns. Lumber, textiles, and horses are also very big imports.
Infrastructure
First Tier
The first tier is the lowest level of the city, also known as the "basement" or "ground floor". Life in the lower tier revolves around mining, and nearly all of the people who live here are either miners or their families, usually dwarves. It is dimly lit, damp, and claustrophobic.
Second Tier
The second-lowest tier, this tier also contains mostly poor individuals, but of slightly better standing than those below. This and the third tier are the most visited tiers of the city, and contain many markets, inns, squares, and other forms of entertainment. This tier has the most diverse resident population in the city, with a mix of dwarves, humans, and elves (with dwarves still claiming the majority). These caverns are more spacious and have much better lighting than the lowest tier, but are still cramped compared to upper-tier standards.
Third Tier
As the middle tier of the city, this tier contains most of the middle class. Caverns on the third tier are well ventilated, spacious, and brightly lit. Also known as the "Commerical Tier", more luxurious inns and taverns, casinos, theaters, restaurants, and other entertainment are popular here. The third tier is the most popular tourist location in the city, and so enjoys many types and shapes of people. It is also not uncommon for people living in the lower tiers to have jobs on the third tier. The resident population, however, contains a near even split between humans and elves, with hardly any dwarves.
Fourth Tier
This floor harbors primarily the upper to upper-middle class, who enjoy access to the most arid and beautiful caverns with several entrances to the surface. The second tier is also home to the city's most prestigious schools and universities, including as The Fidan School of Magic. Access to the second tier is limited, and so tourism is uncommon. As such, inns, taverns, and entertainment are rare, and most second-tier residents will visit the third tier to partake of those things.
Fifth Tier
Also known as the Royal tier, the fifth tier is the smallest. It is reserved exclusively for the royal family, their relatives, and their servants. Just above this tier lies Xen'Katari and the palace, the crown jewel of the city. The demographic of this area is almost entirely elves.
Xen'Katari is the name given to the massive volcanic cavern resting at the top of the city. It roughly translates to "Mountain's Heart". The cavern is so huge that it has its own sustainable ecosystem with completely unique flora and fauna that cannot be found anywhere else.
