Nalar

I still remember the cheering of the people that day, when the Temple's roof was torn off, and the priests were executed. the laughter, the smiles, the feeling of freedom was glorious. We had forever been under the yoke of a terrible master, without knowing nor caring, until that day.   There was also a feast that day, the first remembrance feast. Toasts to Erandul and us, his companions, were raised throughout the night. I remember that Sveta tried sneaking away multiple times, but she was always found by one or more people who wanted to thank her. I think she just wanted to grieve.   We all grieved that day as well. five hundred graves had to be dug for the warriors who died overthrowing the Spider Queen. I remember when Grevan decided to bring down the old residences and bury the dead in their ruins, symbolically turning the prisons we unwittingly used to release the fallen from their slavery. The idea was well received, and we buried our dead in what would become the Field of the Free. I remember how Sveta wept as she blessed the dead. Losing Erandul was the hardest, I think. It was hard on us all, but his death hit Sveta harder than anyone else.
-Dural the Moonshadow, account of the Rebellion
Once a proud city of the Drow in the deep reaches of the Trenfold Caverns, when Erandul the Moonsworn broke the midnight elves free of the reign of Lolth two millennia ago, the city was abandoned, save for pilgrimages of by midnight elves paying respects to the fallen warriors who saved their race.

Demographics

Today, Nalar has no permanent residents, save for the Watchblades, a militant group of two hundred brave souls dedicated to watching for the influence of Lolth. pilgrims from all over the territory of the Midnight elves visit, with about 300 pilgrims visiting the ruins at any one time.

Government

The Watchblades keep order in Nalar, but other than that, there are no governers, as Nalar has been declared an ancestral site.

Defences

The Watchblades know the layout of Nalar well enough to navigate the streets blindfolded without disturbing a speck of dust, and regularly patrol for dawrfish looters or enterprising darklings. the ruined nature of the city also makes invaders unable to follow a set path.

Industry & Trade

All pilgrims stay in an inn set outside the city, and the cost of staying goes to providing for the Watchblades.

Infrastructure

There exists a still functioning plumbing system, and fading magelights provide occasional illumination. In the former residential quarters, there exists a massive field known as the Field of the Free, where the ashes of all the dead are buried. in the center of the field is a monument to Erandul the Moonsworn, which contains his ashes.

Assets

In the Temple of Lolth in the center of Nalar, countless magical weapons exist, weilded by the warriors who fought against Lolth's reign and purged the drow of the taint that Lolth induced.

Guilds and Factions

The Watchblades maintain control over all of Nalar, and protect the ruin from the ravages of time.

History

Nalar was once the crown jewel of a massive Drow empire spaning the continent of Nimestra, until Erandul the Moonsworn, a drow who was chosen by the moon god Umbra to strike against Lolth, led a revolt, casting down the Priests of Lolth and ending the terror and darkness of the Drow Empire. the survivors of the revolution called themselves midnight elves, and set out to become something more.

Architecture

The architecture, what remains of it, shows grace and elegance to the point of opulence. even the entrances to trash heaps are lavishly decorated.

Geography

Nalar is located in the deepest reaches of the northern caves in the Trenfold Caverns. there are three primary tunnels that allow passage to it: one from the north, one from the east, and one from the southwest. the cavern complex that Nalar occupies covers over twenty square miles, with the vaulted ceilings spiraling off into nothingness, lost in the blackness caused by lack of light.

Natural Resources

Nalar was built near several mithril mines, and even within the city proper, the occasional vein of mithril can be found. The Watchblades occasionally must force dwarf prospectors to leave forcefully when groups come looking to set up shop.
