The Obdome plant is a tuber-producing plant native to
Donora and is a major staple crop on the planet.
Appearance
The Obdome Plant is a short leafy plant with multiple stems that end in large green heart-shaped leaves. The plant grows a few feet tall out of the ground but is much bigger underground due to its expansive root system and its tubers.
The Obdome Plant produces tubers that are grown underground in bunches around the root system. These tubers are grown underground as water and nutritional storage which provide the energy for when the plant regrows during the next growing season. These tubers are oblong with a rough red-brown outer skin and bright red starchy insides.
The plant also produces small yellow flowers which produce seeds for the plant to reproduce. The seeds are small and puffy, so they can be carried by the wind and dispersed in that way. The plant can grow from both these seeds and from the tubers.
The Obdome Plant grows best in well-draining soil with lots of sun. The plant is often grown for agricultural use in gardens and fields and is a common plant in household gardens.
The Obdome plants are perennial, meaning that they live for longer than one growing season. The plants sprout and grow in the spring and summer and then die back, at least they do above ground, in the autumn and winter. The tubers are used by the plant to store energy and nutrients for the plant to use to grow back in the spring.
Uses
The Obdome Plant grows starchy tubers that are edible to
Donorians, but bland when cooked, and very bitter and disgusting raw. Due to their bitter taste, they are often cooked or served with other ingredients and spices to soak up the flavor.
The tubers may also be peeled, dried out, and ground up into flour which is then used in numerous different dishes and is used in a common
Donorian flatbread.
The leaves and stems may also be used in cooking as an herb or seasoning or as a wrap for certain dishes.
