The Age of Darkness

The latter half of The Age of Exile is sometimes known as the Age of Darkness. It marks the bitter years of war and plague that followed the extinguishing of the Flame in Aishelon.
It was also a period that saw the downfall of many former kingdoms. Such was the fate of the Great Mirriling Empire, which waned in years of slow decay and corruption. Lost were many of the resources and capabilities of humanity had known in the past. During this time, the Crucible of the Flame no longer functioned as a source of ethereal power, and the Swords of Renown were hidden. People began to rely on human invention and technology, rather than faith and spiritual power.
