Lieutenant Muḥammad ibn Mūsā al-Khwārizmī
A physical fundamentalist and career scientist, Lieutenant Muḥammad ibn Mūsā al-Khwārizmī is both youthful and innovative as well as perplexingly old-fasioned. His lively nature, high energy, and opptimistic attitude has many quick to label him as ignorant or childish. However, he is highly intelligent and wise beyond his years. These traits have allowed him to carve out a path for himself in Starfleet to quickly rise through the ranks, earning a bridge position a mere 2 years from his graduation from Starfleet Academy. He is currently the lead science officer aboard the U.S.S. Electra.
Born at one of the lowest colonies on Mars, al-Khwārizmī grew up in an agricultural colony. The largest problem that needed constant attention was terraforming Mar's inhospitable climate to human habitation. As a child, he would often observe terraformers at work. This, incidentally, left him with few friends and many bullies. Due in equal parts to his alienation from his peers, his natural intellect, and his desire to change the world, al-Khwārizmī enrolled in Starfleet Academy when he was 18, graduating with honors only 3 years later.
Because of his exemplary studies, he was placed in a fast track program on Starbase 64 designed to train senior scientists. It was there that he participated in the retrofitting of starships in preparation for Starfleet's new exploration innitiatives. It was during this assignment, working on starships, that he developed a sense of wanderlust and requested transfer to an appropriate science vessel. The current ship in the drydock was being brought out of retirement and didn't have an assigned crew yet. It was thus that al-Khwārizmī became the senior scientist aboard the Electra.
