The Fleet of Legends
The "fleet of legends" as it is informally known is a collection of duplicates of some of Starfleet's most famous starships and their crews, created by the powerful but isolated race known as the Excalibians.
Initially discovered by the the crew of the USS Enterprise NCC 1701 in 2269, The Excalibans were intigued by the crew's understandings of "Good" and "Evil", of which the Excalbians themselves had no concept of. To understand this, the Excalbians devised a scenario in to which to test the two "ideaologies", using the crew of the Enterprise as both templates for information and test subjects The Excalbians have shown the ability to create duplicates of both inorganic material and living organisims to the exact detail. After scanning the crew's minds, they used this ability to recreate a number of famous figures from the past, such American President Abraham Lincoln, Sarek of Vulcan, Kahless the Unforgetable and Colonel Philip Greene of the Eugenics War, then placed them into some kind of arena alongside Captain James Kirk and Commander Spock, in which the figures were sorted into two groups for "Good" and "Evil" and were expected to fight to the death in order to for the Excalbians to study and determine which idealogy was superior. Ultimately, the contest resulted in a non-conclusive stalemate, with the recreated figures dead and Kirk and Spock being returned to the Enterprise. The ship left the system shortly afterwards and the Excalbian system became restricted, all while the Excalbians studied over the trial.
In 2411, a Federation ship was lured to the Traelus system by reports of an attack oa communications relay. After redevousing with Seven of Nine of the Fenris Rangers, they quickly discovered that this was a ruse as the Federation ship was instantly transported to Excalbia. There, the Excalbians explained thst they would once again perform tests on the superiorority of "Good" or "Evil", this time with numorous and more sophisticated trials and that depending on the outcome, would decide on which philosophy their own species would follow. With no other choice as forfiture would mean acceding to "Evil" being superior", the bridge crew of the ship, along with Seven of Nine and the revived recreation of President Lincoln and a new recreation of a 23rd Century Starfleet Officer known as Micheal Burnham, engaged with each of the trails.
However, over the course of these tests, the Excalbians would lose control over some of their own created duplicates after they accidentially consumed some of Seven of Nine's Borg nanoprobes. This allowed the constructs to gain advanced knowledge, insight and abilites that enabled them to free themselves of the restraint's placed upon them and escape the tests, effectively creating a new kind of "Borg" Collective. This collective began to assimilate Excalbia, but were stopped by the crew of the Federation ship, a newly arrived Enterprise F and most intriguingly of all, a fleet of Starfleet ships, duplicates of some of the most famous vessels and cews from the Federation's history created by Burham and Lincoln specifically to defeat the "Borg" threat.
Since this incident, the newly formed "fleet" has since disappeared, as has Commander Burnham. According to Ambassador Lincoln, the fleet, like him and Burnham, was not reintegreated with Excalibia or its people, a result of the Excalbian's new embrace of the virutues of good. It now stood to reason for them that the fleet and its people were indeed "alive" and as such, their embrace of their new ideology demanded that they be treated with the rights and respect afforded to sapient beings. The Excalians eagerly accepted this and allowed the fleet and its people the freedom to do as it wished.
After a brief stay on Excalbia whee the personnel considered their exsistence, the fleet eventually left for an unknown location, with the duplicate of Captain James T Kirk informing Ambassador Lincoln that they had decided to Continue upholding Starfleet's mission, a mission they still passionately believed in, "To explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilisations and to boldly go where no one has gone before." They would do so however away from the main fleet and would keep the Federation and its allies safe from a distance.
After leaving Excalbia, the fleet travelled to Deep Space K-7 where it explained its goals to the Micheal Burnham duplicate, who also decided to go with them. Since then, there has been no offical contact between the fleet and the Federation or any known groups. However, rumors have spread over the years among Starfleet's ranks, of the other navies and civilian travellers and traders of a mysterious fleet of ships that sometimes appear on ships sensors or, more dramatically, on occasions of great danger when the fleet would appear seemingly from nowhere to protect innocents from disasters or belligerents. This has essentially elevated the fleet into a spacer's tall tale, the eponomous "Fleet of Legends", composed of Starfleet's best all brought together.
It is unknown wether this fleet has come into contact with any uncontacted species. A number of first contacts have raised the issue from time to time upon mentions from newly contacted races of observations of ships that have familar profiles as that of Federation ships, though this has never been proven as of the current stardate.
Any encounters with this fleet are to be reported to Starfleet Command immediately.
(Had an idea that the Excalbians were able to recreate Burnham, Discovery and the scenarios from that series based on the memories they were able to extract from Spock during their first encounter, as he was the only one on the Enterprise who knew about those events and he was with Burnham on Discovery from just before discovering Project Daedeulus right up to the end of the Battle with Xahea, meaning the Excalbians would have full access to knowledge of those events).
