Grand Serennian Hunt
The Grand Serennian Hunt is a premier social and sporting event hosted biannually on the planet Serenno, involving competition for the most impressive trophies from hunting exotic beasts.
History
The Grand Serennian Hunt originated in the hunting traditions of the earliest Serennian colonists, who had to seek out the planet's many predatory beasts for food, furs, and protection. As the Eight Noble Houses established formal control over Serenno's government, they formalised the Hunt - transforming it into a competition between the Houses occurring once every two years, with the winner being determined by which House had the most impressive trophy after a week of hunting. As Serenno's galactic profile grew, the Hunt was expanded over time to allow first Serennian citizens and then other visitors, so long as they paid the staggering entry fee. The format of the contest was reshaped as the giant dragonid - known colloquially as the Snatchwander - became frequently hunted by the ever-more-skilled teams competing in the Hunt. This resulted in a new format where the defeat of the Snatchwander dictated the victor of the tournament, as well as its length. Eventually, depopulation required the Serennians to deliberately breed and release Snatchwanders, ending a series of Hunts which lasted more than two months each, seriously disrupting planetary commerce and government.Current events
