Darkshines 01: "Code Red Initiated"
General Summary
Meeting aboard the DVS Darkshines, pilots Aurora, Phoebe, Désirée, Léna, and Davion are united by circumstance as the ship speeds away from Issoire amidst a gathering of GUSF forces. After meeting Matoi Tatsuda, a cargo ship pilot, and chatting in the ship's bar, the party learns that the Duke of Issoire Jean Violette Cloutier has gone missing. Ensign Jacob Cartier loudly complains of the ship ferrying suspicious GUSF cargo, and attempts a mutiny. After spacing Ensign Cartier and imprisoning some of his fellow co-conspirtors, Captain Mirabelle Poulin requests that the party aid in the defense of the ship if necessary due to the lack of pilots.
Heading to her quarters, Phoebe and Davion unexpectedly find Clarisse Lorieux near their guest quarters. After a contfrontation between Phoebe and Clarisse, the party meets Dr. Kazuki Toyama, an eccentric genius. In the afternoon, Aurora talked to Zoe, one of the guards of the suspicious GUSF cargo. Phoebe speaks to Dr. Toyama alone, finding out that he's actively being surveilled by Clarisse, and that he thinks Clarisse is going to get everyone aboard the ship killed. The ship passes closer to the Fist of the Dominion, an old Hyperion Exotic Matter superweapon, and a tense dinner follows- Léna hears that the Duke has been abducted, information which Matoi promptly passes to the rest of the group.
Phoebe reveals to Davion that her aunt Clarisse is a psionic user, and the danger that she poses to the ship. After Zoe shows signs of parasitic Siliconian infection, Phoebe becomes suspicious, sharing more information with the rest of the group. The party heads for the bridge, where they tell Captain Poulin of the potential danger- she is weary, and orders the ship to battle stations after a destroyer from the Issoire Royal Navy demands to board to the ship to search for the kidnapped Duke.
After Captain Poulin momentarily recovers, she reveals she gave the order under psionic duress, and gives the party command of a number of marines to apprehend Clarisse. In a last attempt to secure Clarisse diplomatically, Phoebe calls her, resulting Clarisse revealing her scorn for the rest of the Lorieux Dynasty and GUSF high command, and her intentions to use the First of the Dominion against the gathering GUSF fleet. Returning to their guest rooms, Phoebe shoots and kills Zoe, terrifying Dr. Toyama- as the party heads for the hangar to find Clarisse, they find that Darkshines onboard gunship, the DVS French Defence, has been apprehended by hostiles. Retreating to fight for control the ship's armory, the party kills two hostile GUSF marines under Clarisse's command.
