Madfall

Madfall is an animal species resembling a large alligator that can alter its coloration. See MTG card Wardscale Alligator for inspiration.   Madfalls live primarily on Tockotch Hwell but some have been found on Caivh Hwell and Minnet Hwell. Madfalls can reach large sizes but most are mid-sized. Sometimes, isolated ponds free of other specimens can cause a solitary madfall to grow and reach a massive size. Smaller madfalls can be found in city sewers, with some reaching large sizes there as well, feeding on rats.   Madfalls have the ability to change the colors of its powerful scales, which in themselves ward off spells. Their scales also allow them to withstand high temperatures and even periods of fire exposure.   The guttural roar of a madfall can be heard across a long distance. Their roar is used in communication, intimidation, and also allows the creature to release pent-up energy. This roar can reach explosive levels, especially when the animal is in mortal danger or is inflicted a mortal wound. Madfall slayers have been known to be deafened and permanently damaged by the roar, with psychological side-effects, hence the name "madfall" - driving to madness those who fell it.   Madfalls can swim well but can also move quickly on land for short spurts. They can spend a long time dormant and motionless. They use their color-changing scales to blend in to their environments, but once the animal becomes energized, the scales ignite in an array of colors.   Madfall leather is prized and valuable, and its magic-repelling properties are valuable in combat and for armor, but it is often artificially colored or painted, as the scales lose their coloration when removed from the living animal.
