16.000 Verses of Devotion
The 16.000 Verses of Devotion, also called the Verses of Devotion or the Devotional Verses are a collection of poetry that is core to the courting and partnership traditions of the Sumraki-Ashaī of Styx.
Traditionally before a woman is allowed to bed a man she must recite to him the 16.000 verses which are found within the Code of Serkatha in the Serkathan Psalms.
The verses were written by the various poetically inclinded Saints of the Church of Serkatha and many include flowery language and metaphor to speak about the nuances of romantic love, devotion, adoration, courtship, partnership and sensuality.
The youth of Styx, much to the chagrin of the Church of Serkatha increasingly ignores the verses, instead choosing the bed whomever they please whenever they please but the Church of Serkatha maintains that the practical purpose of the verses is to inspire conscious thought about who one spends their time and shares their bed with.
According to the elders if the verses were still recited by all the divorce rate in Styx would be zero.
