Code of Serkatha
The Code of Serkatha is the most important holy scripture and legal text of Styx.
It documents the history of the Sumraki-Ashaī and their descent into the Deeplands and gives them laws for how to live their lives.
The Codex contains all important laws and the history of Styx but also is rich with poetry; the 16.000 Verses of Devotion are an example of the artistic merit of the book.
The collected volumes of the code are so long that compiled into a single book that book is too large to be carried, such volumes are kept at Temples of Serkatha.
Priests, clerics and holy women keep abridged versions of the holy book on their person to read their sermons while the common people tend to stick to multiply abridged pocket versions.

The First Right: Any, living or undead, animate or inanimate being with free will and or a soul is considered protected according to the Law.Even the Visitor’s Guide to the Legal System of Styx carries on like this for hundreds of pages but the most basic laws are covered above.
The Law applies to all protected beings be they citizens or not while they are on the sacred grounds of the People’s Republic of Styx.
Every protected being has the right to existence, expression and well-being.
The right to existence, expression and well-being includes the right to food, housing, medical care, political and personal verbal and written expression and publication, expression of gender and sexuality, religious freedom, political participation and just trial.
The right of political participation includes the right to the membership and participation in Unions for all citizens, non-citizens may vote in referrendums but may not join Unions or become members of parliament.
Every protected being born or created on the sacred grounds of the People’s Republic of Styx automatically gains citizenship. Protected beings that live on the sacred grounds of the Republic for more than 10 years are automatically granted citizenship barring the condition that they did not engage in criminal behavior in that time period.
Non-citizens who engaged in criminal behavior during their 10 year trial period are judged individually by the Temple High Council. Violence against other protected beings is not permitted.
Officers of the law may employ violence to carry out their duty.
Violence is permitted in self defense or defense of the life of another innocent sapient or sentient being.
The personal property of a protected being is theirs and may not be infringed on without a fair trade or as punishment for a violation of the Law.
Users of magick require a Charta Permitto to be able to practice their arts within the limits of Styx.
Such chartas are handed out by the Academia Ars Magicka et Mundana.
Blasphemy against the Goddess is punishable.
