Skyward Crusade
The Skyward Crusade is the religious exodus of the Dwarves to what is now the Scorched Lands that ended roughly 6 millenia before the on-set of the Bright.
The Prophet-King Hyamir Skysmith united the warring dwarven clans of the Deeplands under the worship of Oegan All-High who he believed to be the creator of Dwarvenkind.
Hyamir Skysmith preached that their creator loved them infinitely and wanted them to ascend to dwell by his side among the stars for which they would first need to reach the surface and then build great star ships to travel to the Astral Infinity in which Skysmith claimed the God dwelled.
Through his legendary charisma, wisdom and leadership (and some say by clever manipulation, foul play and repression) the Prophet-King Hyamir Skysmith united every single of the previously divided dwarven clans under his banner and led them on a millenia long crusade to the surface of the Prime World Disk.
When the Dwarves reached the surface they began constructing their Star Ports and developing the technology necessary to surpass the heavens but their divine mission was cut short by the War of the Ancients and the on-set of the Bright.
Their dream shattered the Dwarves went underground once more in what they call the Rescent; some of them returned to the surface once more attempting unsuccessful to reestablish their cities eventually adapting to the Scorched Lands while most of them returned deep underground into the Sunless Depths.
Believes among the Dwarves are split among the Skyward Orthodox who believe that the Ascension to the Stars will still happen and who consider the events that led to the Rescent to merely be a test by Oegan All-High and the Eldtruth-Kept who returned to their clan-based spirit worshipping ways leaving the Skyward Quest as well as the teachings of the Prophet-King Hyamir Skysmith and the Church of the All-High behind.
This religious schiism is the primary cultural and religious division among dwarvenkind today.
