Union of the Dead and Dying

The Union of the Dead and Dying is not a true union, it has no formal membership nor represents one of the working classes of Styx.

Rather it is a community of outcasts that make their home in the catacombs and mausoleums of the Osthalt Necropolis.

The Union is made up mostly of undeads of all stripes and those sick with plague or pestilence.

All that are ostracised from Stygian society find a safer place within the Union but its reputation is bad.

The Union of the Dead and Dying is associated chiefly with thieves, rogues, miscreants, the unhoused and those insane, the Stygian guardswomen consider tokens of membership to be ground enough for detainment and questioning and think the Shufflers (as they derogatorily call members) are equivalent to members of thieves guilds and orders of burglary.

Members of the Union are also associated with the independently operating Open Casket Movement that spearheads equal treatment, visibility and freedom of expression for the undead.

The Union as well as the Open Casket Movement are centered on the Osthalt Necropolis, the only established community in Styx that accepts the undead as equal members. In recent times the Union of the Dead and Dying has gained a sliver of recognition as some of its activists joined the legally recognized Union of the Marginalized; a decision rejected by some amongst the movement.
