Osthalt Necropolis
The Osthalt Necropolis, also known as the Holygrounds of Osthalt is the largest graveyard in Styx by far.
It was built after the grounds of the Grand Temple graveyard became too small to contain the honored dead during the later years of the Makathrav rule.
The Grand Temple graveyard was eventually expanded in size but the Osthalt Necropolis has been in use ever since those ancient days.
While still growing with new graves being dug every day what most people refer to as the Necropolis of Osthalt is the ancient part of the graveyard that was once reserved for Stygian nobility and the High Priestesses of the Church of Serkatha.
The Necropolis is a sprawling maze of overgrown graves, mausoleums and an even larger labyrinth of tunnels below them that extend in all directions and connect in endless twisting and winding but eternally cramped fashion.
These ancient grave sites, tunnels and hallowed halls below the surface are maintained and inhabited large by the sizable undead population of Styx.
Cast out by polite society for their rotting bodies they have found a home here among those truly dead and long gone.
The Necropolis has also become a safe haven for those afflicted with infectious diseases that would not be welcome in Styx, the undead aren't bothered by disease as they cannot be infected either way and so the community is happy with people supporting each other the best they can at the edge of society.
There are rumors of certain tunnels and halls so deep in the ground and so close to the Chasm of Umbrae that one can walk on scaffolding over the depths and of entire parts of this network that is filled with toxic gasses that only the undead can traverse or live in.
The uncontested ruler of this realm of the dead is Hades the Gravekeeper, a legendary figure among the living dead who manages the representative affairs of the undead facing the Great Unions and the Temple Parliament.
