No cases of fatality have been recorded. Even the most extreme cases have proven to be survivable, though the aftermath of the condition may have changed what their life will be.
Sequela
For the large majority of affected, they will suffer no adverse effects bar sore memories.
For the minority, they will have had a slight change in their biology, that may affect them at later points in life
For the extreme minority (>5%), they have changed near unrecognisably, and a decision by family/friends must be made to make an attempt to rescue them, or to allow them to live on the mountains.
Affected Groups
Children of the Distortion are a cult focused around this affect. They take residence high on the mountains, often staying there for extended periods to feel the effects, before preaching to nearby settlements
Prevention
No known prevention strategies have worked to this date, but research is frequently conducted.
