Baba Lysaga
A fearsome witch who lived in the ruins of Berez. The party learned from Davian Martikov that Baba Lysaga had served Strahd since his days as a mortal man, and that she was kept alive by similar means. They learned the full extent of Baba's involvement with Strahd when they read The Tome of Strahd: she had been his nursemaid, watching over him since before he was even born, and doing what she could to ensure he would develop a talent for magic. Ri-An, who inhabited Baba Lysaga's memory in the first chapter of the book, learned that she worshipped Norganas, the Finger of Oblivion.
Not everyone in Strahd's early life approved of Baba Lysaga. Queen Ravenovia, in particular, noticed the woman's fixation on her son and seemed intent on sending her away sooner rather than later. However, by the next time the party saw Lysaga in the Tome, it was clear she had found her way back to Strahd in adulthood, as she assisted him in desecrating and disempowering the Ladies Three to help consolidate his power. What the relationship between Strahd and Lysaga looked like in the ensuing centuries is unclear, but after the destruction of the Order of the Silver Dragon, he gave her the skull of Argynvost as a token of appreciation.
Late in 735, the party went to Berez, and succeeded in destroying Lysaga, reclaiming the skull of Argynvost.
