Every information broker needs their stock of blackmail.Those who deal in secrets have a target on them. Those who want their secrets kept, those who want the knowledge they possess, the people who think that the process of gaining that information made them a criminal -- all of these people want this person, and they might want them dead. It's therefore only sensible to protect against such things. Some invest in body guards, armor, weapons, hiding places. Dahlia Avigdor finds her safety in a log. Part dead-man's switch, part registry of secrets, she keeps her most valuable and dangerous information close to her. At one point the device looked like a watch. Sometimes she wears it as earrings. Once or twice it was shoes, although the strain on the tech was enough that she changed it quickly. The baseline device was intended as a universal tool, comprised of a changeable alien material and some human-made nanotech. The intent was to give a friend in a tight spot something with a variety of uses. Something flexible, literally and figuratively. In the end, it turned out that all Dahlia really needed was data storage that didn't look like data storage. In the event that something happens to her, she's able to send out all her most vital information to select sources. In slightly less drastic circumstances, she's able to muster blackmail to use against someone who might threaten her. It's no shield, and it can't be used as a taser anymore, but for someone like Dahlia it's a better defense since she won't need to reveal herself as someone dangerous. The device itself, when not shaped into something new, resolves into a small purplish gray cube that appears to be made of plastic. With the use of a charging plate, she can reprogram it into almost any form of similar mass that she might want.
