The Bastard Isles

Near the center of what T'sara was before The Fey Crisis, the Bastard Isles are thus dersively named as the unwanted and uninhabitable remnants from The Lost Age. The Isles have recently been used as a safe haven for pirates, lead by a young firebrand calling herself The Cutthroat Countess.

Geography

There is a solitary island in the center of the group, with six other islands of varying sizes encircling it. All of the islands are highly mountainous, with the cliffs themselves very steep and harsh. The currents and depth around the inner island are shallower and calmer than the perimeter islands, causing conditions similar to that of a natural reef or artificial breaker.
The mountains on these islands slope sharply, allowing for areas of flat land that, but for the hostile environment, would be suitable for habitation

Ecosystem

The central island is a wetland, while the outer islands, beyond their mountainous heights, host rainforests, with the northern islands being more tropical and the central and southern islands being of a more temperate nature.

Localized Phenomena

With the history of the islands being what they are, and the generally supersitious nature of Sailors from all cultures, all manner of stories have appeared regarding the Bastard Isles.
Some believe there are fey spirits still on islands, trapped forever by the sacrificial spell cast over by Veserae. There have been reports of dreadful monsters lurking among the isles, from fierce predators in the forests to gigantic squids capable of seizing ships to the floor, to even rumors of Dragons residing in the mountain tops. Although nothing has been confirmed, the lack of ships that return from the area have generally confirmed that something is out there, making the isles a destination only for the crazed and the desperate.   The pirates sailing under the Cutthroat Countess however have been making a successful run at their habitation and colonization of the isles, causing many to wonder.

History

In the Lost Age, T'sara was a singular continent, with the central point being near where the Bastard Isles are now. The first attack of the hostile incursion that would become known as The Fey Crisis was the seperating of the land into multiple continents. The islands are thought to be an afterthought or remnant from the uncaring and invaders who that simply sought to inflict chaos. Whatever sentient residents may have lived in the area before the Crisis were unable to sustain themselves in their hostile new environment; a beautiful, possibly haunted, disgrace.   This is how they became known as the Bastard Isles: unwanted land with no legitimacy and no nation or people to call a parent.
