Treasure hunters's code of conduct

The first treasure hunters were mostly explorers and seekers of excitement. They didn't care about power and money. Finding treasure wasn't high on their agenda, but when they ran into something valuable, none of them threw it away. During the renaissance of treasure hunting that was started by the book of Girig Covendelver, the following unwritten rules became a code of conduct for most treasure hunters:
  • Protect your teammates during an assignment. You never know when you will need their protection.
  • Protect people unknown to you during an assignment. Your team always comes first, but it is wise to take care of everybody in dangerous lands. Who knows when you will need their help?
  • Help your friends. Are your friends going on a mission? Give them everything you can to make sure you will see them again. They are your friends and need all the help they can get.
  • Learn. It isn't weapons and magic that will save you while on a quest. It is the accumulated knowledge you and others put together during loads of assignments. Of course, it will be good to bring a weapon or two.
  • Get rich if you can. Nobody is telling you that you must be poor. But think about what is important for you.
These rules degraded significantly when Khalk became the leader of H.O.A.R.D. Being the most prominent treasure hunter organization, they were the example for many up-and-coming treasure hunters. Seeing them changing changed others too. The new paradigm of "money first" was alluring among young people. While most of the old treasure hunters kept themselves to the code, more and more young ones were in the business just for the money. And nobody cared how many of these young explorers died or were lost during their first years.
Nowadays, those who still follow the code are seen as pitiful people who still cling to the glories of old times.
