Dorralia

Dorralia was the joint Winged Elven and Second-Generation Dwarven city state, which faced catastrophic extinction resulting from the Myconic Plague. Now only ruins remain.

Demographics

Primary inhabitants of Dorralia were Circaliadae and Dwarves of the Second Generation. Over time and as Dorralia expanded, other sapient species joined them, mostly including Orcs, Humans and Merpeople. While there were no fixed classes, people who lived in the inner parts of the city had more money and influence. Even near Dorralias end, most power and wealth resided with the founding species.

Government

Dorralia was first ruled by their King Circalion and Queen Dorralia Golrok. However after the passing of Circalion, Queen Golrok appointed seven elven advisors to ensure a proper representation of elvish voices in matters of the state. When the queen also passed without a direct heir, the elven advisors became council members and were joined by seven dwarves of great influence, forming the Dorralian council.   The council ruled Dorralia with full authority, passing laws, setting budgets for city services and the city guard as well as appointing judges to the districts.

Infrastructure

Dorralia was first and foremost a city of trade. The reason for this was that the harbor situated in the giant cave below the city was the only safe harbor along the entire storm coast and as a result the needle through which all ships had to pass when travelling along the east coast of Noria.

Districts

Dorralia is nominally divided by the semicircular walls that separate inner city, from middleton, from outer city. Due to the larger size, the outer city is divided into west, north and south (east being the location of the cliffs which restrict Dorralia towards the sea).

Architecture

As a joint settlement of dwarves and elves, a hybrid building style emerged. The dwarves tend to settle low, either carving homes into the walls of the large cavern or building low bulbous homes on the cliffs. Sprouting from these bases rise innumerable pillars into the sky. Elven towers are slender and graceful, reaching to ever higher heights, defying the harsh weather.   The rock beneath Dorralias cliffs is rich in marble, which is why the predominant stone colour of the buildings is white. This is so prevalent that other rock is often covered by white plaster to fit in better. Dorralias towers and buildings are generally covered in metal roofs, either of bronze or copper. The towers especially each end in tall pointy lightning rods.

Geography

Dorralia is situated right in the middle of the storm coast, the eastern coastline of Noria with steep cliffs towering over narrow beaches. The city itself sits atop these cliffs, which come to a high point there, slowly falling westwards from it. Directly below Dorralia is a natural cave within the cliff, which the ocean flows into. Deep in this cavern the sea drops into unknown depths. No one truly knows where the sea goes from here, but daring seafarers speak of another side of the World, where seawater flows from the ground and into the ocean.

Climate

The stormcoast is a windswept and rainridden area. It rains almost every day throughout the year, with lighter rain falling in the spring and heavy rainfall in the summer. The temperature is relatively cool, with only a few weeks of heat during the summer and freezing winters in which snow falls heavily. With the exception of Winter, the downpour is often accompanied by thunderstorms. In fact lightning strikes Dorralia sixteen times a day on average. Philosophers disagree on the reason for this anomaly, but most believe it is linked to the sea disappearing into the depths below the continent.
