Arianne, the Stargazer
"What... what are you? What do you want from me? Why... why me, Arianne?!"
Arianne is the goddess of the arcane, reflections, celestial bodies, bindings, knowledge, secrets, perspective, sacrifice, and dreams. She is the Maiden, Mother and Crone all in one - she is the Triple Aspect, a being that exists both outside and within the traditional pantheon. Her three aspects are best acknowledged by the Fey West but poorly understood by the East, leading to an extreme dissonance between Arianne's depictions and worshippers across the nations. The single-faceted amalgam she has become in the East distorts view of her greatly. Nonetheless, she is believed to be the goddess who governs the unknowns of the Talish world.
Her traits change depending on interpretation and current embodied Aspect. Traditionally, the Maiden is recognized as a keeper of knowledge and patron of sacrifice. The Mother is the patron of celestial bodies, magic, and bindings. The Crone is the matron of perspective, secrets, reflections and dreams. With a cultural worldview informed by these changing concepts, Arianne is a goddess who is prayed to for a variety of reasons.

Divine Domains
Knowledge and Sacrifice
Arianne resides within the aspect of the Maiden as the goddess of knowledge and sacrifice. She is a keeper of knowledge, feed it to the world and the people in it that desire all of its trappings and power. At the same time, she is the patron of sacrifice for those who do seek such knowledge - those devoted to discovery no matter the cost are her chosen people. In concert with this, she governs this domain as her own burden and sacrifice.Magic
Primarily governing from the aspect of the Mother, the arcane suffuses all of Arianne's incarnations. This encompasses the various taught schools of magic as well as primordial and hedge magic, extending out to now-lost magical threads as well. She encompasses the wielding and understanding of magic both channeled and ambient. People of great raw magical power are often seen as blessed by Arianne.Celestial Bodies and Bindings
Arianne in the aspect of the Mother is seen as the warden of celestial bodies and bindings, relating to the connection between these bodies and the material world as well as the bindings between individual people. While she leads the stars and sun in the sky, her primary symbol and connected form is often identified as the Talish moon, known as Re. The bindings that keep these bodies in the span of the Material are said to connect to her directly, being reigned in and let out at her behest. As for the connections between individuals, this typically refers to connections on a spiritual or magical level.Perspective and Secrets
The Crone aspect of Arianne is the protector and enlightener, the one who holds secrets in order to save the minds and lives of the people while also trying to venerate the value in perspective. She is said to bestow individuals with the power to see from other points of view in a celestial sense, enabling the openness of mind that comes with understanding the machinations of the world from a spiritual point of view.Reflections and Dreams
Perhaps her most important aspect to the old faith, Arianne's Crone aspect is the origin of dreams and reflections. This includes the interpretation and even manipulation of dreams on a magical and spiritual level. The reflections she also holds sway over refer to those found in mirrors and in spirits. As with perspectives, she may elucidate the truths of the world via reflections and distortions. Her followers both East and West tend to keep high stock in dreams and their nature.Symbols, Sites, and Iconography
Given her nature as a deity of all knowledge, the worship of Arianne is well-documented and and widespread. This worship takes myriad forms, varying wildly between East and West. The Spire has documented her worship in great detail, as has The Caislean. The Academy there has made her their patron deity in all but name. Arianne's symbols commonly include books, cloaks, and old Sylvan runic symbols with the Moon acting as her most ubiquitous icon. In the East, special emphasis is placed on mirrors, foxes, cranes, and swans. Western theology claims crows, fireflies, and many flower species as her symbols.Places of Worship
Arianne's Godstone is not of particular importance to the East - her worship is more focused around critical centers of learning and knowledge. In the West, places of high ambient magic are traditionally devoted to Arianne.Godstone Arianne
Located roughly 30 miles off of the Eastern coast of County Bengall, Godstone Arianne is inaccessible to the layman. Because of this, it is only a site of worship for her most devout. Pilgrimages from the Spire and Caislean are made there at least yearly, particularly as the year closes and Saint Airgid's Day and Sauin begin. The Godstone is a great crag covered in sparse dirt and light grass. The carving is located at the apex, with the depiction of Arianne looking southward over the Niniach Ocean. It depicts a circular carving with three figureheads placed trigonally, runic markings and animal carvings linking them with a great moon at the center. The topmost figure is an elderly woman with frizzy hair in a deep cowl holding a mirrored crystal sphere. The rightmost figure is a young woman with great ringlets of curls and a crow perched upon one extended hand. The leftmost figure is a middle-aged pregnant woman with straight hair clutching a book to her chest and placing a hand on her stomach. All three of these figures are clothed in the same great robe. Some theologians have postulated that this cloak is Arianne's Divine Relic. Because of its topmost orientation, Arianne's Crone form is most often depicted in the East. The Caislean and The Spire
As major centers of Eastern learning, both of these locations are centers of Arianne's worship. Students and faculty of the Caislean have affectionately adopted Arianne as a patron, specifically in her Crone form. Her House at the Caislean is reserved for only the most academically successful and ambitious, creating a competitive environment that ideally pushes students to improve and help one another. The Library of Ruina
This library is interred in the permafrost earth of the Aspirant's Caldera. It was supposedly lost to time at one point and only uncovered after the Conquest. It is perhaps one of the greatest sources of lost knowledge in the world. However, its texts are only translatable and communicable by individuals that understand the incredibly complex dialects and formats of Old Sylvan. It is most commonly associated with the Maiden, as it is a place that both gives knowledge and demands sacrifice. The Crystal Garden
Located in the central Winter Province, the Crystal Garden is a field of great crystals with mirror-like properties that seem to sing in the night. It is a place of great beauty and reflection that is recorded as one of the locations where constellations were named as they were reflected in individual crystals. It is often connected to the Mother for its beauty, healing properties, and connection to heavenly bodies.Grove of the Cailleach
This ancient glen of towering fungi and autumnal trees is located in the northern peninsula of the Autumn Province. It is considered an incredibly spiritual place where Fey make pilgrimages to in the service of Arianne. It is generally connected to the Crone as a location of spirituality and dreams.Relics
The existence of Arianne's relic was documented to up until roughly 300 years ago. It was once in the Domhain Vault but suddenly disappeared from it. Accusations of foul play and theft were leveled, and eventually a thief was accused and executed. However, some scholars believe that this was a false accusation meant to assuage suspicion from mystical means. The relic in question was one Suan Nocht, also known as 'The Cloak of Dreams'. It supposedly gave its user the ability to appear in anyone's dreams and even protects its wielder from harm. None of The Seven Saints' relics are particularly tied to Arianne and it is unclear if any others of hers exist. Rumors of a book tied to her have circulated for centuries but have never been corroborated.Religious Figures
As Arianne worship is widespread in the West, her most famous worshippers come from different corners of West Talamh. One of her primary believers is Queen Mab, whose Autumn-province home in Brigamaev is a shrine and academy devoted to her worship. Another is The Oracle, who is counted among her most faithful and often emphasizes the connection between Arianne and The Branwen. Because of her varied worship methodologies in the East, Arianne's followers believe greatly different things about her. State-sanctioned worship is helmed by one Professor Annabla Druach, a current Caislean Professor just elevated to the role of Magi. Arianne worship is particularly important for Talish Dwarves as well as their Tiefling authorities, including the Eochada Clan matriarch Mairead Eochada.Interpretative Difference
East Talamh
Old-faith cults of Arianne in the East tend to worship individual forms of Arianne rather than all three. State-sanctioned Eastern worship of the Stargazer primarily focuses on a goddess who has elements of all of her Aspects and is depicted in many forms rather than one who is all three Aspects.West Talamh
Western worship has a clear distinction between all Arianne's forms with direct worship of all three as individuals grouped within the same divine body. There are some who favor one Aspect over the others, but the rest are at least acknowledged. In the West, worship of Arianne is not as widespread. Western magic is accepted as a ubiquitous part of life, a form of energy transfer given by the divines as an act of love. All the gods are worshipped for their individual magic in mind, with Arianne as the being that categorizes and learns the magical forms.
