Granmalkin Academy
The Magician's Guild of Heliogabalus has always been a political and economic force in Damara, enjoying an impressive reputation thanks to its faculty and curriculum. Apprentices flocked to the school to learn magic, and a steady stream of supplicants and merchants looking for discount magic items kept the School's coffers full.
During the reign of the Witch-King, Zhengyi disbanded the guild, requiring all new apprentices to tutor under his own mages. Many apprentices during that time reverted to the older apprentice-mentor system rather than place themselves in Zhengyi's grasp.
After King Dragonsbane defeated Zhengyi, Teldon reconstituted the guild using his own manor as the new guildhall. He assembled a group of professors that he felt could cover the various schools of magic, and begin accepting apprentices.
However, a somewhat terse discussion with Baron Dimian Ree concerning the guild's usefulness to help quell the civil unrest landed Teldon in some hot water. He was overheard calling the Baron "the back end of a Kneebreaker's pig, with all the sense to boot"
While Baron Ree wasn't in a position to personally threaten Teldon, he did make a point that the guild itself would suffer. After several months of local harassment, Teldon stepped down as Archmage and was replaced by Telari Avondal, an apprentice of Baroness Sylvia Praka's.
The fact that Sylvia didn't immediately throw Teldon out surprised the Baron. While Archmage Avondal was apprenticed by his long-time ally, the guild continued its policy of non-interference in political matters. Even more so that when Teldon was Archmage.
A request by Baron Ree to visit the Guildhall and meet the membership blew everything out of the water. When Archmage Avondal accepted, Teldon objected. Unable to change Telari's mind, he threw the entire guild out of his manor, giving them a month to relocate.
With the help of Baron Ree, the guild secured several warehouses across the street from Teldon's manor. The magical abilities of the guild made short work clearning the site and beginning the construction of a new, grander, guildhall.
Searching through guild history, Telari has named this new site Granmalkin Academy, after Archmage Granmalkin, one of the initial mages who formed the guild, and according to guild records, the first to be named Archmage.
Telari sees a time in the near future when she renames the entire guild the Granmalkin Academy of Magic.
Architecture
This is a large imposing building with black basalt walls. The stonework has very few seams, and it looks like one solid piece of stone.
