The Problem:
A Character with this Drawback not only looks like a cinnamon roll, but acts like one: sweet, fluffy, not a malicious or intimidating crumb in their entire kinesthetic. They are kind to strangers and animals. They tend to accumulate people desperate for a sympathetic ear or a comforting shoulder pat.
This is great when the Character wants to pass through a scene unremarked, for example when posing as a low-level minion in an organization where they ought not to be.
Bonjour!Maman has instructed me
to bring my criticisms of this game mechanic
directly to you.I have prepared a most excellent presentation, look!
It contains many points and illustrations!
Criticisms such as?
My first point:I am not harmless!I can in fact be quite dangerous,
should I find it necessary!
Corsair is prepared with video footage from a recent Young Justice Adventure
commission for Jarissa by Chai
Alas! Even though the Cinnamon Roll may be Badass Adorable, a top-notch Defender in a group melee … only individuals with established familiarity to the Character will take their warnings or urgent instructions seriously.
The Downside
Once per critical point within an adventure, a Cinnamon Roll Character automatically loses a contested Character Interaction (Persuasion or Intimidation) attempt whether they are on the AV/EV side or the OV/RV side.
Ehrmagerd! It's a little Officer Clauhauser!
Look, he has a pirate hat!
That's why.
A Cinnamon Roll is not going to be considered a threat by most opponents, even when the Cinnamon Roll has gone to effort to make their competence and adversarial intentions plain. A Cinnamon Roll is not going to easily convince bystanders to evacuate a building; the bystanders will be more inclined to comfort the Cinnamon Roll's anxiety, or at least to finish up their own business first.
Even if I have a Terribly Scary Gadget upheld in my hand, blinking and everything?
Where'd you get the Fluxion Bracer, little guy?
That thing needs repairs. And it is missing the other bracer. Tell you what:
Give me that, and I will trade you this fish!
That is a bristlemouth. A live bristlemouth! It belongs a hundred meters below the surface of the ocean! Not here in this shopping plaza!
I packed it for my after-crime snack. Tasty! C'mon, niño. Trade me. Good bargain!
Perhaps I should have asked Scivias to do this part of the plan.
You inherited your father's charm, Grayson. Maybe as you continue to grow up, you'll learn how to turn it off in favor of "quiet menace" -- he did, after all.
The Learning Curve
A Character working to permanently overcome the Drawback of being "a Cinnamon Roll" does not have any options for buying down this Drawback to a milder variation. When the time is right for Character Advancement, tell the GM ahead of time and work out the story bits. A Subplot may be involved! There may be an option to transition from Cinnamon Roll to a different psychologically-based Drawback!
But as a whole, once the character is in play the lump sum cost to buy off Cinnamon Roll is
150 Hero Points.
