Elegast
Professor Hannes Voll
Mental characteristics
Personal history
Hannes Voll has always been, deep in the most secret center of his heart, a villain. His nerves thrilled when he witnessed the transformation of another person from a state of true suffering to the comparative peace of pain's absence ... but of course to achieve that end, one must first arrange for suffering to exist. Hannes recognized his dark urges and kept them strictly contained, hidden, unfed.
Mostly.
Perhaps that craving for pain and relief fed into his talent at musical composition: certainly his self-restraint there bled over into a lack of true greatness in his creative works. Hannes knew he could be a world-class master of instrumental arrangement. The price would be that he would have to let go the habit of compassion, let his inner sociopathy take charge. He confined himself to the petty powers of a tenured professor and high-ranked violinist in a respectable orchestra.
When a rival professor embroiled Professor Voll's latest protege in a political scandal, an observer in the employ of a villainous organization detected Professor Voll's secret nature. Hannes found delicious joy in setting his own followers to trap the enemy in a deserted music hall and terrorize the man. The professor himself stood at one of the perfect resonance points in the hall, where every grunt and plea of the assault carried vibrantly to his hearing.
Two nights later, Hannes Voll vanished off the face of the world. His violin was gone as well, though all other possessions remained.
When the life of Professor Hannes Voll vanished, the villain career of Elegast began. He served the interests of that first villain organization for three truly unpleasant years. When a rival organization raided Elegast's employer for resources, showing an impressive grasp of tactics and versatility, Elegast brought his own immediate working team with him to a better employment situation. He has taken pains ever since to arrange that any "job change" has always been a clear benefit to himself and the remainder of his original team; that Elegast's team always appeared to be blown by the winds of others' work, not actively job-hopping of their own volition; and most importantly, that the pains he took were mostly suffered by colleagues.
Elegast's current employer split Elegast and his original team apart, assigning them to different branches of the organization. They see one another only in twos or threes, only every two months. If Elegast continues to be loyal to the direct reports who have followed him from villain group to villain group over the last decade, then his career may have stalled out in the current position.

Personality Characteristics
Savvies & Ineptitudes
With an Artist (Musician) skill level of 7 APs, Professor Voll had developed the intricate skill atop his native talent to be a true virtuoso of stringed instruments. He pursued greater heights of skill for his own sake, never for status in the world of the performer. The power over others that he sought came mostly through his status as an authority figure, not as an object of an audience's admiration.
If he had chosen to follow the path of the celebrated violinist, he would absolutely have burned bright!
Inevitably, his star would have someday faded. He would have been replaced by the next rising star.
Hannes Voll prefers to lurk in the shadows, arranging events so that he seems to stroll innocently through the rubble of others' suffering.
