Public Baths

The Gulderry Public Baths are a place for locals (and only locals) to congregate, socialize, and relax while cleaning off the grime of everyday life.

Purpose / Function

Despite the best efforts of civil and clockwork engineers, private indoor plumbing is by no means common in the world of Farforth. Even so, cleanliness is considered a virtue in most Farforth cultures, as this helps to prevent the spread of disease and helps supress the stench of hard labor - whether in the field, aboard a ship, or in an artisan's workshop. As such, public bathhouses are a common sight in settlements, with particularly wealty settlements having multiple such establishments to cater to a wide variety of social classes. Gulderry is no exception to this trend, but, in the interest of keeping the town 'for the locals,' the bathhouse is not generally opened to non-residents.

Alterations

As with all magitech projects in Gulderry, The Transmuter has had a hand in optimizing the day-to-day operations of the Gulderry Public Baths. In this case, Mr. Polycarp has constructed an enchanted pipe section designed to clean and give a slight cedar perfume to the lake water as it makes its way into the baths proper. The sterilizing quality of the water found here weakens over time, but it is strong enough for any overflow to be used in cleaning the floors during the quiet hours. As such, the Public Baths remain immaculate-looking and good-smelling despite regular visits from sailors and farmers looking to expunge the grime of their work.

Architecture

The Public Baths are ensconced within a beautiful marble-pillared structure which emulates the architectural forms of the Grand Triskele's southeastern arm. The floors, lower halves of the walls, and the baths themselves are richly decorated with tile mosaics.   Two sex-segregated bathing and dressing facilities flank a small administrative antechamber at the front of the building. A third bath at the center rear is for large groups and is kept at a lower temperature than the other two for the safety of more frail guests (i.e. the elderly).   The floors and baths are kept warm at all times through the clever implementation of red arcana focii and clockwork water pumping systems kept in the basement. The Winder's Guild provided the equipment and maintains it in exchange for a portion of the local taxes; as the structure is thus financially sufficient, it is free for any citizen of Gulderry to use.
