Verusius Emberhand II
His Imperial Majesty Verusius Emberhand II
Verusius Emberhand II is the current Emperor of Talica. Son of the late Tiberius III, more renowned for his last words: "Get those damn orcs out of my city!", he is the first ruling Emperor in the century that has to readjust human society to once again coexist with the orcish race. Having inherited his mother's kindness, it might just be possible that this 10-year-old child won't lead his empire into yet another war.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Verusius has never been much for moving around. Despite being an elegant child, he is really a lot slower than he looks. His mother did tell him not to run inside the palace.
Body Features
The crimson hair of the Emberhands lives on on Verusius's head. No other bloodline could hope to reach such a color. His golden pupils are also exclusive to his bloodline.
Facial Features
Pointy chin and nose, few freckles, pale, almost colorless lips
Identifying Characteristics
The crimson in his hair gives away his identity as a descendant of Tiberius I.
Physical quirks
Left-handed, tends to let his legs dangle when he sits on a high spot (including his throne)
Special abilities
As with all Emberhands, the makings of a great pyromancer live in Verusius. Much like his recent predecessors, the potential remains untapped.
Apparel & Accessories
Regardless of whichever pattern of red or orange his silks are, Verusius will usually be wearing the imperial flaming crown, which barely suits his head, as well as a black mantle with the burning sword embroidened on its back.
Specialized Equipment
A tiny, thin rapier which he named Oblong. Upon being asked why, the boy replied it was because he wanted to look up the meaning of the word when he got home, and that way he wouldn't forget it.
Mental characteristics
Personal history
Much of Verusius life is, as he hopes, yet to be lived. Having just risen to power, he has already been bombarded by flatteries and orders disguised as advice from people who had otherwise until then never cared about his existence. His mother lost to sickness and his father lost to terminal oldness a few years too late, his only family are a pair of older cousins, born of their exiled parents at the other end of the world.
Education
Having been mostly raised by his mother, Verusius stands completely uneducated in any martial art or even hunting. Instead, he has learned his basic courtesies, how to read (which he does far more than his counselors would like), how to handle the diplomacy that his father much despised and how to ride a horse.
Employment
He did not ask for it, but just as soon as his father was buried, two of his butlers picked him up and put him on a throne. He did not have the heart to say no.
Accomplishments & Achievements
Verusius has, on his fourth day in office, managed to beat his father's number of hearings from his subjects, just as soon as he heard the first one. Verusius has also let an orc into his court for the first time in his century.
Failures & Embarrassments
As much as he never wanted to do it, he does feel bad about never fulfilling his father's last request to purge all the orcs from the city.
Mental Trauma
After several sessions of enlightenment with his mother, Verusius has become slightly paranoid about assassins. He still holds the foolish belief that a lock will protect him, but it lets him sleep better at night.
Intellectual Characteristics
Kind-hearted, polite, surprisingly caring of his subjects, given his father, somewhat naive, still working on the whole "confidence" department that all Emperors before him seemed to master
Morality & Philosophy
Upon being bombarded by so many concepts and choices on his first day on the throne, Verusius uttered his most memorable quote to date: "Why can't I just be a good ruler?"
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
Holds the outrageous belief that a ruler's duty is to make life better for his subjects. He intends to do just that.
Savvies & Ineptitudes
After several years of reading, Verusius possesses quite a bit of knowledge about Demonology. It would be nice if it was even legal to talk about it. On the other hand, Verusius has hardly ever swung a sword, and he'd gladly have things stay that way.
Likes & Dislikes
Loves honey. If he could, he'd put it in everything. Likes most books. Dislikes most things physical, especially sparring. Hates the cold and anything related to low temperature.
Virtues & Personality perks
Kind, diplomatic, devoted, fair
Vices & Personality flaws
Easy to sway, naive, unexperienced
Social
Contacts & Relations
Verusius's only trusted advisor is Mxievl, an imp he summoned to help him rule properly. However, his court also hosts Argus and Brutus Lexius, Liette Perpetum, Robertus Sabellius, Aedr Dragonscream, Umana Tulget, Aa'ra, Slander, Khuff Clinkfist and High Priest Benedictus.
Family Ties
Besides Tiberius III and Lysena, his deceased father and mother, Verusius has two cousins: Phoebus and Tessa. He rather hopes he never meets either of them.
Social Aptitude
Verusius is yet to acquire the charisma or confidence that enable a so-called "proper leadership". He is, however, able to recognize his status, and is working on getting his orders taken more seriously. As a child, he has no trouble talking to new people yet, and not one soul can criticize how polite he turned out under the guidance of his mother.
Mannerisms
Verusius has a very slight tendency to pout on the face of bad news. It does not affect his judgement, but he agrees it makes it harder to be taken seriously as a monarch this way.
Hobbies & Pets
Whenever he is not busy being the Emperor, Verusius enjoys reading, or even peeking into the demonic realm of Axaspea if he has time.
Speech
While he tries to never do this on the throne or with the crown on, Verusius's voice turns into a high-pitched wail if he is questioned for too long, especially with Mxievl or anyone he feels comfortable enough around.
Wealth & Financial state
Verusius, as all that came before him, enjoys a steady supply of gold from the people who live in the lands that papers declare are his. He also enjoys (far less) a steady drain of gold from the immense army that an empire is required to have in order to keep being an empire. In times of peace and with tax-paying orcs back in the fold, however, the imperial treasury is not in any particular danger now.
