The Consort

Written by Chrundle_the_Great

The Consort, servant of the Countess, was a mutated creature that stalked the region southwest of the Spokes in Redgaard, near the Chapel of St. Brenna. Along with its underlings, it sought out the corpses of adventurers as offerings for its master.   Despite an unexpected encounter, it was ultimately killed by Kapital.

Description

The Consort was a massive, mutated manticore with eight ogre-like arms, stripped of skin and set with sharp shards of delerium. Beneath its fiercely glowing purple eyes, it spoke from a mouth carved into its lolling tongue. Finally, it adorned itself with the corpses of slaughtered adventurers.

Personality

Insane and bloodthirsty, the Consort tirelessly hunted for offerings that might please its master. Should offerings evade it, the Consort was apt to fly into a frenzied rage, breaking through buildings and bodies as it gave chase.

Abilities

It was a powerful spellcaster without any qualms about channeling power through delerium. It was able to summon eldritch hailstorms, cast spells to irreversibly shatter mind and body, and contaminate with its claws and fangs.

Relationships

Allies

Viciously fanatical in its service to the Countess, the Consort existed solely to collect offerings for its master. A small pack of laughing manticores immoblized its prey before it descended.

Enemies

When members of Kapital evaded it, the creature vowed to remember their scents, particularly that of Eldemir Barling, whom it believed would be an excellent offering.

History

When returning from the Wastewater Treatment Facility with a contaminated Sir Euclid, Kapital were caught in a denser fog outside the Chapel of St. Brenna. As maniacal laughter rang around them, tail spikes shot through the air and pinned the group's feet to cobblestone.   Descending like an aspect of terror, the Consort appraised the group's value as offerings to its mysterious master. However, when the group tore the spikes from their boots and ran away, the beast raged, summoning the full might of its magic to capture them. Directed by a voice in the wind, Eldemir led the group to falling shard of delerium, where the earth collapsed. Kapital ultimately escaped, the Consort's threats booming in the background.   While running from the Troll King's soldiers, Kapital unluckingly stumbled upon the Consort. With a split-second decision to fight or flee, Eldemir saw a mysterious weapon held by a mage hanging from the creature's corpse-necklace. Although the group suffered serious wounds and contamination while fighting the Consort, Eldemir activated the corpse's strange weapon: a vorpal longsword with a blade of light refracted by delerium.   Wracked with mutations and forced to flee, the group ran as Eldemir and the Consort dueled. Finally, the paladin struck true, beheading the Countess's most loyal servant. Hearing the stampede of approaching mutants, the group cut out the Consort's tongue and quickly fled.
