Ser Euclid

Written by Chrundle_the_Great

Sir Euclid is a knight of the Silver Order, one of its few Unbelievers.
To combat evil without divine protection? Without catching his sword aflame? That man is braver than all of us.
— The Silver Order

Description

Euclid is an older human man with slightly purple eyes, an effect of his prolonged exposure to the light Haze. As a knight, he wears plate armor with the symbol of the Sacred Flame emblazoned in silver on his breastplate.

Personality

He is very honorable and truthful, as befitting a man of his station. Usually unexpressive, Euclid maintains a calm, quiet demeanor, even in dire circumstances or when he was suffering from contamination.

Abilities

Although he is not a paladin like many others in his order, Euclid is well-respected for his martial prowess and his conviction to protect the Candle Colony, even without the use of a paladin's divine magic.

Relationships

The Silver Order

Having trained for decades with Sirs Francisco and Yusuf, Euclid is especially close with them, although he and the other Unbelievers are cherished by all in the order for their bravery and commitment to their cause.   The lone survivor of a confrontation with the hoppers in the Wastewater Treatment Facility, he is extremely guilt-ridden and mourns the deaths of his fellow knights and their squires.

The Candle Colony

Faithless as he is, Euclid is easily frustrated by the more zealous of the Candle Colony, especially Flamekeeper Ibai Garcia. When Kapital stood trial in Camp Dawn, Euclid was infuriated with the priest's accusations and his own powerlessness to halt the inquisition.

History

At one point, Euclid and his regiment went missing near the Wastewater Treatment Facility, and the other guilds, discovering that he was very likely being held captive by the hoppers, began hiring mercenaries to retrieve the knight, either for information or to be ransomed.   By speaking with the Prophet, Kapital secured Euclid's release on the condition that the group retreated and misinformed the major factions that the hoppers' home was impenetrable. However, the group were unable to retrieve the corpses of Euclid's regiment. Silently suffering from contamination, Euclid only protested once.   After returning to Camp Dawn, Euclid was debriefed by the Flamekeepers, one of whom called for an inquisition against Kapital for "abandoning a regiment" and "consorting with creatures of delerium." Mourning the loss of his fellow knights and their squires, he was frustrated by the accusations and tried, in vain, to argue on the group's behalf.   After being healed by the Beacon, Euclid, accompanied by Yusuf, met with Ansom Lang at Emberwood Watchtower, as the group requested. The Silver Order were unwilling to rescue Petra Lang after she was captured by ratlings. Euclid was apologetic, but firm, in his decision.
