Thorak the Lungless is a warrior and former slave who escaped the
Scar Mines.
Description
Thorak is an
ogre man wearing piecemeal, scavenged bits of armor. From his days as a slave, he has metal plates welded to the contour of his palm, so he can hold
delerium without being contaminated. Also, he has a lingering injury: a jagged red scar in his chest, where a javelin pierced one of his lungs.
Personality
Having suffered much, Thorak is quiet and introspective. He is apologetic when his strength hurts others who have done nothing wrong to him. Finally, he is loyal and willing to take risks to earn allies who might help him right the wrongs done to him and his family.
Relationships
Family
Thorak and his brother were both enslaved by the Ironcrag Dwarves, who grow rich off their delerium mining operation in the Scar Mines. He seeks weapons and allies to free his brother, who is still enslaved because "there can be no laws when Westemär has no king."
Enemies
He has been exploited and deceived by the Ironcrag Dwarves and the
Queen's Men.
History
When they were younger, Thorak and his brother were enslaved by the Ironcrag Dwarves. When he escaped, Thorak sought weapons to free his brother, but the loan conditions from the Queen's Men were deceptive, and he soon found himself choked by hefty debts.
When
Kapital passed through the
Spokes, they saw the aftermath of a bloody
ratling ambush. While two corpses lay in the streets, miraculously, Thorak's chest still stirred with slow, whistling breaths. The group intervened, driving the mutants back into their tunnel and treating Thorak's horrific wound as best as they could.
At first skeptical, but grateful for rare kindness, Thorak agreed to aid the group with retrieving treasure from the
Emperor of the Waves, even though he had been in the
Haze for half a day already. Even after the group met and earned favor with
Sir Benito at
Verdant Hollow Farmstead, Thorak declined leaving with the knight as he needed allies to save his brother, and he had grown to trust the group.
While the group searched the partially-wrecked ship, Thorak kept watch and hunted for
dammers. When the group finally escaped with the shipment, they returned to a half-skinned mutant and saw Thorak, once again chained, and being dragged into the mist by
the Horror.
After the group negotiated the terms of Thorak's freedom, the
Grave Order made it clear that he would be used to mine delerium in the meantime.
During the confrontation at
Fresser Estate, the group broke Thorak free of his chains. Grateful, he pledged himself as an ally of Kapital and helped to reclaim
Von Drakken Estate.
