Vylshok

It's hard to think that anything could live here. I'm barely hanging on to my hat, and the waves crash thunderously against the rocks that line the beach. Somehow, every year, thousands of terns arrive to this god-forsaken patch of land to lay their eggs and rear their chicks. A town used to sit not far from here--I can just make out the ruins. But it's unclear what happened to the inhabitants or what they saw in this place to begin with. The island just north of Vylshok is equally as desolate, and ships stay well clear of this area. The current here is strong, and the winds going in the opposite direction make it nearly impossible to navigate. Even getting here is a challenge. The nearest village is more than a day's walk away, and there are no guides who want to come here. Some of the locals call it Orrus' Scream because of the ringing in your ears from the wind. Elsewhere, this place is sometimes called the Plains to the Underworld because only the dead could survive here.

Geography

Vylshok is a barren region in northern Petrek. It's known for high winds that cut across the land and a rocky shore dotted with sheer cliffs. The ocean current that passes Vylshok narrows and strengthens. Few ships can manage to come close to the land. Despite the flat area, there are no rivers for miles. Trees don't grow in Vylshok, and the town of Vyl that once inhabited the land is ruined.

Fauna & Flora

Animals are scarce on land, though there are many fish who enjoy the nutrient rich water. It is a relative haven from birds as the winds are too strong to allow them to land easily. However, a species of tern nests in Vylshok due to its safety from predators and easy access to food. Grass is the dominant plant.
