Major updates coming to Tarantellia in 2024!

2021 Summer Camp: Homework

I, Lauren Nelson, will complete all 31 prompts for Summer Camp this year. I will listen to my body and provide for all its needs. I will take time for movement, meditation, and nutrition.

The Pledge Homework

Q1: Which project are your worldbuilding prompts tied to?
For SC 2021, my efforts are predominately tied to RPG prep and generic worldbuilding. If, however, I feel inspired to write something fun for one of my novels, I’ll let my excitement lead the journey.
Q2: Which world are you working on?
There is still a lot to explore in Tarantellia. I’m looking forward to continue my Summer Camp journey there.
Q3: Which area(s) of your world are you focusing on?
The Claw Continent will be my primary focus; however, I may create a prompt or two in the mirror planes (ie, Fae, Grey, Dreams, etc).
Q4: How much are you aiming to complete?
Going for Diamond this year! I'm creating a Self-Care Plan. In the future, this article will have Random Generators for different struggles.
Q5: When will you write?
Unfortunately, my days lack routine. My hopeful schedule will be: Morning-Type, Afternoon-Research, Evening-Edit, and Night-Journaling.
Q6: Who is your support network?
My partner, a few select friends, and family. On Discord, Chapter RemEmber, Cze & Peku, Limithron and WhenGeeksCraft. My podcasts: SciShow Tangents, Critical Role Live Stream, and It’s a Mimic.

All pieces were completed by me. The watercolor was done with pans of paint, cheap brushes, and a watercolor book. The drawing was done with pencil, ener-gel pens, and a grid notebook. The mini was designed on Hero Forge.

Goals

After a successful Summer Camp last year, I have a few goals for 2021:
Improve Writing Speed
Diamond Badge
Keep up with my WA Notifications
Participate more on Discord
Dedicate time to editing
Add Artwork, even if it’s just sketches

What Went Well

Many things led to my first Diamond badge but here are a few of my Big Wins.
Setting and Honoring Boundaries with my Time
In 2020, I set boundaries with my friends and family around my time. Some were upset with my new restrictions. As time went on, as I finished more prompts, and as I respected my own boundaries, I found that 1) my determination outweighed their approval and 2) many of them became my biggest supporters.

Completing the Summer Camp Homework
Completing the SC HW in 2020 helped to organize my thoughts and limit scope. In general, focusing can be difficult. Even though I didn’t complete the homework “on time,” I found completing it late was better than not completing it at all.

Brainstorming and the Cork Board Mind Map
As mentioned in the previous section, focusing can be difficult. To brainstorm and keep the challenge at the front of my mind, I taped index cards to my wall. Completed prompts were tacked to a cork board with different colored yarn to show and build connections.
This year, I will try the diplomacy web and tagging systems for completed prompts on World Anvil to show and build these connections.

I really like the aesthetics of this article! Best of luck with Summer Camp this year. I also wanted to say I really like your artwork! It's nice to see someone else who does their own art for their characters. :)

Amazing artwork! I love your placeholder images. Very creative. You’ve created an incredible layout here and also for your prep document. Good luck with summer camp! I’ll be following along,

Choose your poison:   Phasmatum: An Afro-Solar-Fantasy world created for my epic novels.
Adazuri: A shonen-inspired magitech fantasy world home-brewed for 5e.

I love love love your pledge page. I wish I had seen it sooner, I probably would have tried to at least make a pledge. I didn't know I was going to participate in Summer Camp until on a whim, I started writing prompts. Then I discovered what apparently every writer but me somehow knew intuitively; world-building is an incredible way to bring your manuscript together and things I couldn't quite connect or figure out just came naturally. You are way ahead of me but I'm having the time of my life. Kudos to you for this very thoughtful plan. Or pledge. You seem to have thought of and accounted for all possibilities.

Thanks, Kato! <3 Summer Camp is definitely my favorite WA event. I struggled so much my first real go of it and I was determined this year. I didn't meet my social goals but I'm hoping to spend some good time this week on my notifications list and other articles within the community. ^_^ I'm so glad you enjoyed yourself. The community adds this amazing energy to the writing process. I checked out your SC page and you rocked Summer Camp!! Congrats!! With your permission, I'd love to read a few of them. Do you have any favorites?

My favorite is "The Poets." If I were more technically proficient I would post a link. I was so excited and inspired by learning that world building is a miraculous tool for writing a novel that I overlooked, at first, how important community is. Before Summer Camp, I thought of World Anvil as a tool for writing my novel and editing. Now I know it's a community. Having a community is genuinely more inspirational than even world building because I've learned so much from great writers like you.

Sorry for taking so long to respond. I've been in the process of finding a new place to live and haven't had a bunch of time to dedicate to WA. That said, I read your reply the day you sent it and it hit me in the feels. I'm glad that I could play a part in your connection to the community. I hope you're able to continue finding ways to connect and grow. We love that here. ^_^
