Romain Duchy

Nestled along the mildly warmer lowlands on the far side of the Glass-Spear Peaks, encompassing the lands along the banks of the Tiber until you are in line with the end of the Glass-Spear Peaks, these lands are a bit of a bread basket for the region quite literally by name. All along the lowlands grows a valuable type of moss, one that is edible and hearty, and grows in thick matts with abundance. It is an important staple within the region, and dried out biscuits made from the stuff are one of the dominant rations within the naval forces of Suranth. As such, between this and having full control with the provincial capital over where the Tiber enters the Glacial Sea, full control of these trade waters, along with Parvi, or Bread-Moss as some call it as an abundant resource for trade gives the region, and through this the entirety of the Foljeim Province to some fashions, a boon of influence, power and potential wealth. Of course this region is the center of that power and influence.

This region is the lands held directly by the provincial Protectorate, Duchess Kassandra Romain. One can expect a land of cultural mixing, and will find any manner of delights from lands south, and local delicacies from all about Suranth itself as well. As a major trade artery, one would expect nothing else. A melting pot of sorts, one can expect to interact with plenty of peoples not Suranthi by birth, most often from Depenwood or Raechin. This is true of travelers of course, but is even true of those whom live in the region.

Geography

GEOGRAPHIC PLACES OF IMPORTANCE:

Shard River: This river gets its name for the fact that it often will have ice floes no matter the time of year, it is treacherous at best to sail. It is a feeder river for the River Glace and is only separate for less than two hundred kilometers of distance before joining the larger regional river. It is a fast flowing river, cold and treacherous.

Glacia Strait: This river, for it is a river, despite its total misnomer for a name, has its name because the explorers whom named it untold time ago, in the records that still exist, according to scholars whom make it their business to study such things, thought for sure it would connect the Glacial Sea (which millennia ago was likely believed to be an actual ocean), to the Nor'Westor Sea. Its one of those place names that scholarly folk realize is wrong, but to actually change it now could take generations.

CITIES/TOWNS:

Moss Bay (16817):

Tanglebank (6114): Another fortified town, large and important in its location, as it holds the rail crossing for the Tiber River. Control of this bridge, along with the other bridge, and Moss Bay of course, this is the second choke point for the main rail lines in Suranth, insuring nothing can come in or out of Eastern Suranth via the rails without passing through three major points of rail security close together. A security gauntlet. But Tanglebank holds its name for another reason, that is the continuation of the Parvi fields, thick and dense, all across the lowlands. The majority of people here work not the railyards or the docks, but the Parvi Fields all up and down the banks around the town.

Torquia Hold (3813): This town is another important military point of course, adding another layer to military and defensive control for the region, especially over the Tiber. It is a fortress town, strongly fortified, as it is the southernmost town in this region, and is a small but high volume farming community, the fortified town a bit of a bread basket in the province, as around this town grow some of the thickest and heartiest Parvi Fields in the region, and the most skilled farmers in the region are known to live here. Recently, their have been reports of robbery and assault upon the Moss-Cut Road a few kilometers north of the town. Two merchants were killed last week and now their is a warrant and a bounty out for whomever is responsible. One needs to see the local authorities or the local Road Warden Captain for more details.
