Scholar (Any Race)

You dedicate yourself to the pursuit and study of knowledge, wherever that may take you.

"Do not speak ill of Shari my friend. Yes the scholar may not be a fighter, yet his knowledge has been more useful than the best of weapons, for I've yet to meet the beast that he can't tell me how to kill. His knowledge of the monsters, beasts and otherworldly things that stalk our homeland seems boundless." Serge Vasfield, Sky-Rider, in regards to his friend Shari Billington, a scholar.

Scholars can most often be found studying at one of Valerick's many universities or other such institutions. Most specialize in one or two subjects, but learn the basics of many more. Some become scribes, documenting things of importance for others, or transcribing and preserving older text. Others are educators, lecturers, tutors for the wealthier within society. The most prominent and well known in their fields will be offered, and can hold the position of professor at any given university, offering lectures before groups of dozens of students, hundreds even in the largest cities.

Scholars without such steady employ as being a professor with a university well, they need funds to continue their research and study. There many dark and dangerous places still within the Valarian Empire, even in this age of industrialization, and as such some scholars in need of funds may find themselves hiring on with an adventuring group or expedition to provide their expertise in a practical manner. Others end up organizing and leading such expeditions in some cases, seeking long lost tomes and manuscripts. They offer a voice of reason, a font of knowledge, and a lot of practicality

Role: They are common sense oriented, access to a host of Lore skills makes them a useful investigative ally, great at helping with puzzles, strange lore, and oddities. They are an excellent knowledgeable addition to any group.

Dangers & Hazards

Knowledge is power and as such there are some groups who would kill for knowledge, and times in Valarian History when nation states have had a....dark and violent censorship approach to handling knowledge that disagreed with their policy or ideals. Beyond this, especially in archaeology, you don't fully know what you are handling, what you may see in the ancient and seemingly abandoned places such excavations occur at.
