D20 System

Academics in a D20 system, as with all classes, are merely the simplest of shells. They do not decide your level path, that is within the actual specialization you pick within the class. But first you must pick the class. What this will tell you is simply your hit dice rules, your skill ranks per level, and noting what stat boosts you will recieve via levels, as that will also be a thing. Your level by level track is decided by your speciality, which you must select at level 1, which will also decide what your skills you can select from are.

Hit Dice: Academics, as with all classes, add their Toughness Bonus at every level to their maximum wounds total. They also roll 1d6 to add to their hit points at level 1 and every second level after that (so 3, 5, 7, etc etc). It is of course recommended that first level characters are allowed to just take maximum hit points to start the game.

Skill Ranks/level: All Academics gain 6+Intelligence Bonus Skill Ranks per level.

Stat Boosts: Academics are intelligent, often well spoken, and generally very wise and studious, though many also end up quite hands on with some of their studies. At 4th level, they gain +1 to Intelligence, at 8th level they gain +1 to Fellowship, at 12th level they gain +1 to Willpower, at 16th they gain +1 to Dexterity, and at 20th level they gain a +2 to any one of those four stats of their choice.
