Suranthi Magisterium

As with every nation state, Suranth has her own self governing magister education group, watched over of course by the local military, and policed by Witch-Hunters and the Storm Lancers directly. Known locally as the Suranthi Magisterium, though its more proper name is 'Nnei Thuina Gshierr" or oft translated to the "Academies of Magical Discipline". The Magisterium is the governing body, the highest ranking magisters across the country working together to insure a complex, strong network exists that allows proper training, streamlining of apprenticeship, and insuring as few promising students end up being left without an appropriate teacher as possible. They do this in a variety of ways, including but not limited to; moving students as needed, relocating teachers and mentors as needed, funding improvements to current academies or the building of new ones as appropriate or as needed, and naturally, handling the delicate legal matters as required when it comes to matters of licensing and documenting graduated magisters. They also devote their own efforts, funding, resources and personal where possible to aid, or even take over doing the job of identifying youths so 'marked' with the talent, or even on some occasions, hunting down apostates and witches. This organization is directly tied to the Suranthi Armed Forces Magi Corps, indeed they supply it. One cannot fully graduate without serving at least five years in the military. Yet another way they insure proper authority and observation of those practicing the magical arts.

Structure

The Magisterium is run by Tobais Verholf, and his fellow four Master Magi, whom run the Magisterium's day to day affairs, as well as running the true Magister's Collegiate in Geata-Iarainn. This main campus, the official academy, has many 'branches' or 'satellites' in various large cities and towns across Suranth now. The Magisterium run affairs directly, but each of the five members also handle communication and affairs for one of the other five provinces and their associated satellites. They work together within the Ironcliffe Province, and then each take upon themselves their delegate province and communicating as needed with the various satellite facilities across Suranth. Tobais Verholf is known to be the one in charge of keeping that communication chain intact and up to date within the Stormlands' Province.

Culture

The Suranthi Magisterium seeks to be progressive, to expand beyond a mere single academy structure, and seeks to insure more youngsters with talent are found and provided a chance at proper education before they are discovered and lynched by a mob of their superstitious neighbors, or worse, discovered and taken by Witch-Hunters or their ilk. They are seeking to move out of a dark age mentality about the magical arts, and bring the magical arts into this new age of enlightenment, education, and industrialization with all the other technologies and fields of study that are making such advances. They seek to become more...recognized, to remove some of the religious stigma and superstitious nonsense around their craft, whilst maintaining a necessary amount of cautious secrecy of course.

Public Agenda

There public agenda is to train and educate youngsters with talent for the greater good of the country's defense and the safety of all Suranthi citizenry.

Assets

The Suranthi Magisterium is exceedingly wealthy, as an organization, and owns a lot of property and influence as well. Besides this, of course, they own the market, as it were, within Suranth on arcane magick. They hold many parts in businesses and pieces of property. The Magisterium's webs are vast across Suranth, second perhaps only to the Wave-Runners, though little is known about that organization.

The four most common schools of magick of magisters and apprentices found across Suranth are, in order; Domhan {Earth}, Uisce {Water}, Dulra {Nature}, and Aeir {Air}

History

The Magisterium was forged by necessity, back in 1203 in the times of reclaimation, when enemies were many, and the land to be reclaimed was full of brutal beasts, twisted monsters, and heretical fanatics and shamans that needed a counter. Thus the Magisterium was born. To this day, magisters trained within its structure and hierarchy continue to provide a dutiful and much welcomed service to the Suranthi peoples and military.
