Aven

Aven have humanlike bodies, arms, and legs, along with birdlike wings and heads. All aven have lean bodies with feathers extending from their heads down to their taloned feet. On Tarkir, aven are known to come in a variety of appearances. Those found in Clan Ojutai tend to have crane or falcon-like features. Falcon or vulture-like aven can be found within Clan Dromoka's family units. Finally, it is not uncommon to encounter vulture-like aven within the ranks of Clan Silumgar.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Aven are numerous in Tarkir's skies. Being found in almost ever corner of the plane ranging from the vast deserts of the Shifting Wastes, to the humid rain forests of the Sagu Jungle, to the icy peaks of the Riverlands.

Ojutai aven have an honored place in their society since their wings allow them a better command over the body language of draconic. They are often used as translators by high-ranking dragons and the voice of Ojutai's personal translator carries the weight of the dragonlord himself.
Among the Dromoka, their keen eyes and tireless wings make them ideal scouts. The Dromoka's focus on community has aven integrated into the "family units" that make up the clan, living side by side with humans and ainok, calling each other equals and siblings.

race features:
Flight. Because of your wings, you have a flying speed equal to your walking speed. You can't use this flying speed if you're wearing medium or heavy armor.
Talons. You have talons that you can use to make unarmed strikes. When you hit with them, the strike deals 1d6 + your Strength modifier slashing damage, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
Wind Caller. Starting at 3rd level, you can cast the gust of wind spell with this trait, without requiring a material component. Once you cast the spell with this trait, you can't do so again until you finish a long rest. You can also cast the spell using any spell slots you have of 2nd level or higher.
Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for when you cast gust of wind with this trait (choose when you select this race).
