Eastman's Casino

A one floor gambling house in Hammingburg, this luxuriant den of sin entices one and all into decadent ribaldry and excess. Giving you permission to leave your troubles at the door, the casino's open doors welcome all and sundry to it's opulent gaming floor, while a more discreet customer service center in the rear books rooms and vacation stays.
Built by the group called Kate's Lads, this casino somehow stays afloat smack dab in the middle of a town entirely run by their arch nemesis, the Merchant and Sailors' Guild. This push-and-pull has actually greatly benefitted the people of Hammingburg, creating a unique environment in which a casino has to be at the top of its game to survive.

Purpose / Function

To make money by allowing foolish people to wantonly lose theirs.

Design

A veritable labyrinth, designed to keep people inside, and spending coin. Bright colors and strong drinks just serve to accentuate the masterfully designed lighting scheme, and air freshening mists are sprayed throughout the entire building to eliminate the scent of stale cigar and pipe smoke. The rest rooms are attended by elderly men and women, who make a good living on tips alone, and the post-and-beam framing is charmingly displayed to full effect. The decor boasts a glut of flashing lights and ringing bells, serving to dazzle and englamour any who visit.

Entries

There is a grand main entrance, comprised of a stylized saloon door and flanked by plants and slot machines as well as large lads with low brows and sunglasses.

Sensory & Appearance

There is soft music that seems to happily inspire people to recklessness.

Contents & Furnishings

There are slot machines, roulette wheels, craps tables, every kind of card game you can imagine (including whatever 'bacarat' is), and bookies take bets on the afternoon's horse races right there on the main floor.

Valuables

The vault below the casino is well defended and hard to get to, being at the bottom of a one hundred foot elevator shaft. It is full of priceless goods and tresures, looted from the ruins of ancient Paxander. They are rumored to possess actual scarab statuary and jewelry, which is (as everyone knows) incredibly rare. They have also been amassing ingots of gold and silver, here, to hide it from the tax collectors in the cities. The vault contains:
  • 2d6*1000 Gold Pieces
  • 3d6*1000 Silver pieces
  • 6d6*2000 Copper Pieces
  • 2d4 Art objects worth 25 GP
  • 2d6 50 GP gems
  • Two level one spell scrolls
  • A javelin of lightning
  • A perfectly spherical orb, floating six inches above a red velvet pillow with gold tassles. It will not move, unless it is moved with the pillow
  • 14,607, 27.4 lb. gold ingots
  • 22,304, 22.5 lb. silver ingots
  • Scarab statuary worth over 100,000 gold pieces at auction
  • Scarab jewelry worth 1,000 GP
  • A matching set of 6 scarab figurines, carved out of jade, worth 6,000 GP
  • A cast-gold, stylized eagle wall decoration, looted from the ancient ruins of Paxander
  • The Cotnor crown jewels, worth a kingdom's ransom to King Pladimus Cotnor
  • The Paxander crown jewels, worth a king's ransom to The Bardic College Campus' archaeology department
  • 8 fist-sized gems, worth 1,000 GP each
  • A head sized gem stolen from [High King Artemis himself
  • The Mask of the Vixen
  • A Mask of Disguise

Hazards & Traps

There are, of course, the requisite thugs, guards, elevators, and magic snakes.

Special Properties

It is deep enough underground to foil Locate Object and Scrying spells, and furthermore it is protected with spells and enchantments of concealment and deception. The air in the room is exchanged using the state-of-the-art HVAC system the Madam Mother had installed here.

Alterations

Roulette, a newer game invented after a student at The Bardic College Campus, who had been researching perpetual motion machines, snorted some dried and powdered dharak worms, has been added and is ectremely lucrative.

Architecture

It is a romantically rustic affair, with rough hewn post and beam supports expertly displayed through the smooth plaster of the walls and ceiling.

Defenses

Large lads with lots of lumpy muscles, and a notable lack of empathy.

History

This is the first gambling house Kate's Lads opened when they came to Hammingburg from Marketoon. It is a highly dangerous and experimental gesture, as Hammingburg is deep-hearted Merchant and Sailors' Guild territory.

Tourism

This place is packed day and night, mostly by rural and rustic folk puttin' on their Restæ best and hitting the town after selling their produce, or furniture, or clothes...whatever they sold, they wanted to blow off steam. Here in Hammingburg if you know the right "lads", you can get into the casino for free. It boasts loan offices and mortgage officers just in case you want to sign your home away in search of the next big score!
