Before the Sleeping, He Of Many Burdens was worshipped as a figure protecting his followers from suffering proportional to their happiness. He did this by taking on suffering himself. This, according to his worshippers, worked due to the concept of 'The Balance' A force that seeks to make sure all good and bad and all other things are balanced with their counterpoint.
He Of Many Burdens, while respecting the Balance as a universal force, worked to take on suffering for his worshippers and allowed them to experience more joy and goodness in the world without taking on too much of the worlds ills. His worshippers would sometimes take on intentional suffering, to allow He Of Many Burdens to allow more of the good things they prayed for to reach them without upsetting the Balance.

In the modern times of Tempricida, worship of He Of Many Burdens is mostly restricted to the small, insular Town of Two. With him asleep, unable to take on the burdens and suffering his people wish to avoid, his role in preserving the balance is filled in other ways. Primarily, this role is given to figure known as The Wretched Oblation.
