Faustulus

This man was once a shepherd working under a harsh regime of an empire that has been stricken from historical records. He begged the gods, one day, at the peak of his youth and prowess to save him and the world from the magocracies that plagued their planet. He wanted to show fear in the hearts of those that abused the gifts that the gods had given to mortal kind, and so the gods had gifted him with his one wish. He had become the first Versipellis and the world had been cut off from Aethereal Plane. The unnamed magocratic empire had fallen with the Gift of Faustulus spreading amongst the farmers as a new and prominent empire rose in the empire's ashes, the Latonan Empire. 
Devouring hordes of knowledge as his empire spread over the ashes of the magocracy, Faustulus devised grand strategies and treaties of surrender in agreement with every country his grand empire would encounter. He went to every corner of the globe with his vastly expanding empire, crushing rebellions and bringing the vast knowledge of civilization to all. And when he completed his long journey at the age of 75, he had disappeared into the wilderness of Hesperis and was never heard from nor seen again.
Some say that he had disappeared into the wilderness in order to find a way for his kind to ascend to divinity. Others more say that he still haunts the dreamlands as a deity to uphold to if one needs to conquer the monster inside of them due to the degeneracy of his race. These others say to this date that he hunts those who have divulged into their horrendous nature as the Lupis Lucis, the Wolf of Light.

Motivation

Faustus was a man first driven by freedom then by unity and reason. He wished to not just conquer but unite the globe as he had envisioned himself blessed by the gods who had left the world. If the gods would not answer the prayers of unity and relinquishment of the people from unjust empires, he would. He would make them bend their knees as they would serve the people as their new masters.
A proud strategist and athlete, he demanded his soldiers always be trained in the many arts of strategy and exercise throughout their time serving their empire. It was in his mind that a scholar should always be an athlete so as to always be at their peek and at their greatest focus in order to surpass expectations. He would also make known to his warriors the need to negotiate and never give into such wild splendors as those before their great empire, lest they divulge into savagery.
He hated not magic and usage but the utilization of it to the point of decadence and degeneracy of the mage's physical bodies.

He saw weakness as the greatest vulnerability that the world needed to overcome and so he sought to end its plague before he departed from the world. Little did he know, four thousand years after he left his empire would crumble due to the divergence away from his teachings.
