Versipellis

The original race of werewolves that were created and commanded by all aspects of Mava to cow the animals, mortals, and monsters of the world. They took this command as literal as possible and created the Latonan Empire in order to unite all mortal races under a single banner and bring about a utopia as the god's voices became quieter. Following hundreds of years of silence, the Versipellis fell into decadence and tyranny. This angered the gods to the point of causing the goddess Kagia to curse the race to become nearly infertile, and this made the race almost impossible to reproduce. at least in the minds of the Versipellis. In truth, the were-kin had bred mutants as their children had been born with mixed features and far less potency than their parents were ever capable of, thus creating the were-kin or shifter. This event split the race into two factions, a majority found their ways to be shameful and wandered into the newly war-ravaged world in a quest for redemption, and the others would become the violent and contagious monsters that are recognized as the therianthropes today by making abominable deals with demons to increase their chances of breeding true. Legends have it that some can become a versipellis after intense periods of trauma, conquering the beast within as a modern therianthrope or contacting Faustulus. How much of this is true and not superstition remains to be seen.
