Dol Darun
The Flickering Halls
Dol Darun, meaning literally "Mountain Home" in Dwarvish, is the capitol city of the Judiciary of Ilith. It is currently ruled by Bogdan Barrelback and his extensive retainers.
The settlement stretches out from a central Old City, which the Ilithians found when they first drove off the dragon Nemesis. Here the city is inhabited now as it was found, with shops and homes being made out of the myriad buildings built into the stone. The Old City is illuminated by sconces, left untended by the current citizens, which stay lit with a gentle blue flame at all times. Many superstitions and sacrosanct beliefs are held for the Old City; chiefly, a taboo against building, damaging, or otherwise altering the stonework prevents any industry but maintenance. Approximately half of Dol Darun exists within the Old City.
New additions can be found a respectable distance away from the sacred central chambers. These are largely inhabited by the city's poorer residents. They also contain most of the active mineshafts.
