Jokus

Jokus is a halfling vagabond and drunken monk of many talents known for his laissez-faire disposition.

Once a founding member of the Heroes of New Veluca, Jokus has since departed from the group after feeling that he had lost his way.

In his earlier years, Jokus was a member of a monastery - the term used loosely - whose members made a living as a nomadic performance troupe. While the group was initially very popular and known for their incredible shows, they suffered from a shared problem of compulsive binge drinking. After draining every drop of alcohol from innumerable towns and villages, they found themselves with few friends - and worse, no booze. It was in this crisis moment that the troupe realized they needed to change their habits to survive.

In order to continue traveling and performing together, they would need to conquer their drinking problem by ensuring that they would never again run out of the stuff.

Each member set off to find as many bottles of everlasting firewater as they could, so that one day, they might return to their carefree ways.

To pay his way on his holy quest, Jokus began to take work as an adventurer. He joined Vito and Xerm as early recruits to the Champions of Blackfriar, and later, the Heroes.

While traveling with the party, Jokus was often the troublemaker. If something seemed like a trap, he'd spring it; when asked his opinion, he would give it, regardless of social conventions. This tendency towards honesty belied his mischievous nature and sticky fingers, and Jokus was all too happy to help himself to whatever he felt wouldn't be missed.

Although shady at times, Jokus was quick to put his own safety at risk for others, if perhaps only for the sheer excitement of it.

After months of brutal campaigning, Jokus found himself sobered, both literally and figuratively. After a crisis of faith and a brief tryst with a mysterious entity calling herself Lady Luck, Jokus quietly stole away into the evening one night, leaving behind his favorite jug, his viol, and a short note of farewell to his companions.

He briefly rejoined them during the Battle of the Boar God , but departed soon after for the land of Zera.

Jokus has one son, who doesn't answer to a particular name. Although he's only approximately ten, he shares Jokus's love of the bottle, and has to be actively kept away from open containers of alcohol.
