Unit-S41

Also known simply as "Unit," Unit-S41 is an entirely unflappable warforged soldier and tinkerer.

Unit-S41 was created by dwarven artificers to fight in Ilith's Sentry Division over one hundred years prior to today. For much of his early life, warforged were not considered to be citizens by Ilithian society at large, and his kin were often used to perform excessively dangerous or degrading work. For S41, this meant engaging in the often lethal task of securing the Judiciary's borders, both above ground and in the Underdark.

During the rise of Bogdan Barrelback, all warforged were emancipated by official decree. Now considered citizens, all were therefore entitled to fair compensation for their labor. The Sentry Division was subsequently disbanded while the Ilithian economy restructured itself around now having to pay a significant portion of its workforce. Out of a job, and without a direction in life, Unit-S41 chose the path of the wandering adventurer.

Having been drawn south by the troubles of the Meridian Plague , Unit had a chance encounter with the Heroes of New Veluca outside of a dilapidated tavern. He offered his services as an extra sword without hesitation, and thereafter became a reliable companion on the group's many travels.

Between his martial prowess, natural resilience, and penchant for magical trickery, Unit serves a foundational role in the party's combat effectiveness. His dedication to the art of war has even manifested itself in his body; Unit regularly alters his physical form to install weapons or other upgrades using his limited training as an artificer.

Outside of battle, Unit struggles with communication and social norms, and often relies on his companions to rescue him from his frequent gaffes. This has included everything from politely insulting the nobility to accidental daylight robbery. Although Unit is often confused by morality, especially as it relates to what would be considered normal behavior, he maintains a core respect of justice and friendship that guide his generally well-intentioned actions.
