Delphine is Ottie's mother, and an elite detective at the Water Church. She has what is likely severe depression, which keeps her confined to her bed for much of Ottie’s life.

Personal history

When Delphine was roughly 15, young and foolish even by teen standards, she met the man who would later become her husband. He manipulated her into agreeing to go along with a lot of illegal things to move with him to Avient, his homeland. Delphine happily obliged, forging an impressive amount of paperwork and documents.
He eventually convinced her to go through with a very taboo spell that would change her heritage partially. They went through with it, and left for Avient, arriving in a nondescript house. What Delphine did not realize until she attempted to use magic to do some cleaning, was that magic systems are determined by bloodline, and as she was now partially Avientan, her heterochromia meant that she couldn’t control the amount of magic she would use each second. She found out quickly after she got injured though.
Her husband soon started sneaking out to sleep with others, and she fell into a major depressive episode lasting five years. After which, she had Ottie Lavigne. Things happened quickly after that, and her husband left(got chased out), and she was left raising a child until she relapsed into depression when Ottie was 6-8 ish.
