Ottie Lavigne (Aught-tee Lah-vin-ay)
Ottie Lavigne (a.k.a. Otter (By Delphine), various insulting nicknames that make use of the word odd)
A magic-less detective with a certain energy about her, Ottie is one of the main characters of the unnamed detective story. She is selfless and cheerful to a certain extent, but often uses those as a mask to hide less cheery feelings. She has a frantic energy around her that only grows over the first half of the story.

Personal history
From an early age, Ottie has faced large amounts of stress, suffering discriminatory actions, as well as taking care of her mother, Delphine Lavigne. She based her entire identity around being her mother’s caretaker, and is suffering the realization that her mother doesn’t need a caretaker around when the story begins.
Ottie suffered neglect due to her mother’s condition, and her mother does her best to make up for that when she is up and fully functioning, which is increasingly often. Ottie enters the story with an identity crisis surrounding who she is without being a caretaker, as well as her mother’s newfound energy.
Due to this crisis, she has a lot of frantic, restless energy, which drives her to become a detective and take on cases with high stakes, such as murder cases. Ottie does not register the stakes until late in-story, when someone points it out rather harshly(for them), at which point she breaks down. Ottie breaks down further at the truth behind the murders, feeling incredibly guilty as a result of what she’s learned.
After the story ends, Ottie takes half a year to recover, as well as out of guilt. When she does pick up detective work again, it is much more trivial cases. Eventually, she moves in with Elodie Ducasse and Clementine Laverne, and they live happily together….mostly.
