Personal history

Joe Schmoe was born and raised in the town of Hogan, within the Great Kings Empire. He was born to John and Jane Schmoe, the current members of the Schmoe family, a long line of brewers and inn keepers within the Great Kings Empire.   Shortly after Joe's birth, his father opened a tavern within the town of Hogan, naming it "Cup o' Joe" after his first born. Joe would be raised within the inn, which also served as the Schmoe family household. Three years after Joe was born, his sister, Molly Schmoe, was born. Throughout their childhoods, they would become as close as possible.   Joe's father had been part of a brewer's guild since before he had been born. The Schmoe family had always been known as well respected members of the Brewery of the Great Kings. As such, John Schmoe was always having visitors from within the guild over. John and his guild friends would often reside within the basement of the tavern while they were visiting. Being young children, Joe and his sister often found it fun to spy on their father and his friends while they were visiting. What they often saw, they could not explain. John and his friends would often conduct some sort of ceremony in the basement, requiring them to dress up in black and red, hooded robes and chant phrases in a language completely unknown to Joe or Molly. As Joe grew older, these meetings started slowing down before stopping completely around the time Joe was nine years old. As an adult, the memories of these ceremonies are real, but very distant and foggy.   As Joe grew into his preteens and early teen years, he became more and more interested in his family stories. One of his favorites, was the story of his great grandfather, Gokssart Golden-Fist, who was a giant and was where Joe got his tall height from. According to the tales told to Joe by his father, Gokssart was once a ruthless giant warlord who commanded vast armies and spared no lives. One day however, Gokssart met a beautiful human woman named Olivia. After meeting her, Gokssart decided to settle down and build a family. They named their first, half-giant child Cindy. Cindy would later marry into the Schmoe family and become John's mother. Through his interest into the tales of Gokssart, Joe would learn the giant language from his father, who had learned it from his mother.   This was not the only family tradition Joe took on. During the same period, John would also begin to train Joe in the ways of the Brewery of the Great Kings. This would culminate with Joe traveling to the city of Diwell with his father and formally being inducted into the guild. As a reward for completing his induction, John bestowed Joe his Brewer's Bag of the Great Kings which was originally given to his grandfather, John's father, by Beleg Draug, the founder of the guild. Stitched into the bottom of the bag is the guild's emblem and the name of the bag's original owner, Robert Schmoe. The bag is a rare item only given to esteemed members of the guild. It allows the owner to pull out flawless drinks without any effort.   When Joe was fourteen years old, his father left to "buy some milk from the general store" and never returned. Oddly, he left with a packed suitcase. His mysterious disappearance caused a long period of hardship for the Schmoe family. Joe's mother was devastated and Molly vowed to one day find out what happened to her father. Joe was obviously hurt as well, as he had become to have a very close relationship with his father over the past few years. Looking through John's remaining belongings, the family discovered that not much had been taken; only necessities for travel and the ceremonial robes he once wore with his colleagues.   After his father's disappearance, Joe took on the role of the man of the household, inheriting ownership of the tavern and tending to his mother who was now slowly degrading mentally. When Joe was seventeen and Molly was fourteen, she decided that she was finally going to leave Hogan and search for her father. Joe tried his best to convince her to stay, but nonetheless she left and Joe has not heard from her since.   Life began to slow down after his sister's leaving. It became to same repetition of running the inn and caring for his mother. When Joe was nineteen, he longed for change in his life and decided to take up playing instruments, not only to bring enjoyment to himself, but to also make the tavern feel a little more lively. Within a few months, he joined a local band in Hogan named the "Funky Drummers," serving as the band's drummer. The small band consisted of three members. Other than Joe, there was Morven Bronzeheel, a high elf who played the lute, and Ricemin Leaspell, a halfling who played the flute. The band would often get together and plan at Joe's tavern or various other locations around town, often advertising Cup o' Joe and bringing in business.   Through playing with the band, Joe eventually met a fan of them named Mary Sue. She would often follow the band around town, showing up wherever and whenever they played. Joe and Mary Sue eventually fell in love and after a few years, when Joe was twenty-two, the two got married. Only a year later did the two have their first child. Joe decided to name him after both his father and grandfather, naming the boy Robert John Schmoe, Bobby for short. As Joe began to build his family, his time with the Funky Drummers took a back seat. The band never split up, and will still occasionally play together to this day, but they aren't the band they used to be.   In the past four years, Joe has found himself content with life, managing the tavern, caring for his mother and family, and occasionally getting together to play music with his friends. Joe has taken on the hobby of collecting rare pottery. His most prized possession as of late is an ancient dwarven piece, a brass-colored pot, carved with the etchings famous of the ancient dwarves.   A recent event has somewhat shaken up Joe's contentedness for his current life. One night a few months ago, a hooded man came into the tavern from the rain. He walked up to the counter where Joe was working and handed him an envelope. The only words spoken to Joe were "Keep it secret, keep it safe." The envelope was sealed with red wax and upon opening the envelope, Joe discovered that it contained a singular, golden ring. Through experimentation, Joe discovered that the ring turned him invisible when worn. Although Joe isn't normally deceitful, he had an almost supernatural urge to keep the ring a secret from his family and always carry it around in the envelope, within his pocket.

Joe Schmoe is a simple man who runs an inn, named Cup o' Joe, in the town of Hogan. He was born to John and Jane Schmoe, his father being a well respected member of the Brewery of the Great Kings, a brewer's guild.
