Barrel O'Brew

Overview

The Barrel O'Brew started as a mobile still on a cart when the town was originally being built. The Brew was greatly appreciated by the workers of the time, and the Old Gate was positioned close to the traditional location of the Brew in honor of it's importance in building the town. Both Dwarven and Human masons and carpenters used the Brew as a meeting place for their Guilds prior to the Guildhalls later being established in town.

Location Specifics

The Barrel O' Brew sits strategically near to the Old Gate, and not far from the West Gate into the Town of Pavis. It is very close to the nearest Guardhouse - and is therefore a common haunt of the local watch. It is rumored that many of the Watchmen start and stop their patrol rounds from the Barrel and that a single patrol cycle is referred to as "a Hoop", named after the iron hoops around a barrel. In honour of the Barrel O'Brew and Watch connection, the current Mayor Kar the MIner, established the City-Watch Patrol Terminology - to name each of the eight patrol routes after one of the Iron Hoops traditionally put around a Barrel by Atlantean Coopers.

Business Associations Formal Associations include the Two Boot Stables near the Eastern Gate of the Town. This association allows those staying in the Inn, to have the quartering and care of their steeds done at near cost when they stay with the Barrel. This service alone is said to be one of the reasons why people are so eager to stay with the Barrel.

The informal associations include - most strongly - the previously cited link to the local watch, but also the guilds of Masons, Carpenters, and even the Coopers, giving greater access to their resources and membership should the Inn need them.

Architecture

The Inn is a standard three-story Inn and acts as the first stop for many individuals who come to town from the North and North-West of Atlantea Planetia.

The Inn, architecturally has a large central hall, the main kitchen, a small (three-horse) stable, a cellar for storage of alcohol, foodstuffs, and a small brewery in which the inn brews a series of beers, stouts, ales, and pilsners. It has accommodation for the innkeeper and his family, and critically 7 rooms for travelers visiting the town. At the top of the building, are two private function rooms. These conference rooms allow for the conducting meetings of any civic group (and some not so civic) referred to as the Wood and Stone Guild Rooms respectively in honor of the carpenters and masons who originally met on site when the town was being built.

Defenses

This Inn is frequented by all the Guards who guard the Old and even the Western Gates, so very few crimes are attempted on the premises. It is also well-known that the Inn is strongly linked to the Ithil Lunar Elves. The rumor is that any attempt to commit a crime against someone staying in the Barrel O'Brew will face the Night Arrows. The Night Arrows are an elven group of silent killers who are feared by all enemies of the Elves.

History

The Barrel O'Brew was initially set up by the Elven House of Tinubith as a way of keeping tabs on the construction of the town - with it being so close to the Sylvannik Forest and ancient elven ruins rumored to be in the area. Some even claim it was set up to keep tabs on the growing alliance developing between Humans and Dwarves in the area. Regardless, the Barrel O'Brew has evolved from a temporary beer-fest tent and then to a more permanent base for local workers, before evolving into the first permanent Inn of the Town.

Tourism

The weariest, and wealthiest stay at the Barrel O'Brew. Both due to it's location, and it's safety - as well as it's reputation for being an island of security within an island of safety in Pavis. It is therefore known to have served some of the most famous of travelers in its time.
