Gaiting Ability

The Hestur is a naturally five-gaited steed - not that they can all perform the five gaits to equal ability. Therefore, a horse fully trained in all five gaits is rarer. Any Scythian with such a steed will (70% chance) have a four gaited steed. The Horse Masters in the tribe reserve the full five gaited steeds for themselves. It will know the following Horse Gaits. The Tölt and the Skeið.

The Tölt can be naturally performed by the Hestur - this allows the rider to perform ALL normal tasks of camping whilst traveling during the day. Some warriors are said to even sleep in the saddle and allow the horse to travel uncontrolled. However, it is not limited to this. ANY task can be done during a Tolt. This includes eating, drinking and even writing. The movement is simply that smooth. This allows the rider to also fire his bow with no negatives at all - as if standing or walking whilst shooting.

The Skeið allows the Hestur to move over rocky and muddy surfaces at normal speed - almost as if they have Horseshoes of Zephyr on them.
