Lionmidden

The Land of the Ebony Lion

Written by David_Ulph

From these translations the Midden then claim to have learned the founding principles of modern philosophy, medicine, theology, astronomy, and, most importantly, they believe they uncovered many new Gods. Whatever the truth, the Midden, as well as being liars and tricksters, were an adventurous and curious folk, and soon organised expeditions to explore the surrounding lands. When they eventually bent the knee to the early Bludalfar Conclaves, they brought with them knowledge of their written language and Gods, and had a broad-reaching impact upon our ancestors.

Geography

Lionmidden is the westernmost of Mylrondian regions, and the only Duchy to not be majority Bludalf in the Kingdom of Mylrond, instead being ruled and populated by Midden Korgs. Lionmidden is also the only region to border Skìrah, crossing the Blackwater River into Valhol Hold. Lionmidden also borders the Bludalfar region and duchy of Gliniswari to the east where it lies within valleys, the Frozen Sea to the north, and to the south the mountain range the Back of Terralba that crosses into Mordwynn in Elgerlor. There are no safe or often used passages between Lionmidden and Mordwynn.

Off the coast of Lionmidden are two island chains, both under the jurisdiction of the Korg House Blackstone. The first are the Myrkal Isles that are formed from the only active volcano on the continent of Elgerlia, and the second is the Kemp Isle known for it's hot springs and luxury retreats for the nobility of Mylrond.

The actual geography of Lionmidden is a mix between both Skìrah and Mylrondia, with snowy frozen winters from the climate covering tall pine forests, but hot summers with warm springs coming from the volcanic mountains and rolling hills. The land is akin to the rest of Mylrondia; lacking in minerals but rich in fertility and so the rolling hills of Lionmidden are used as a breadbasket for select areas of the Great Western Empire.

Civilisation

The civilisation of Lionmidden is a cultural hybrid between Korgs and Bludalfar, creating something unique in the realms of the GWE. Since all but Clan Blackstone fled farther west during the Dragon Crusade, they are the only true noble house that rules over the region. A developing hub of trade between the allied Golden Kingdom of Mylrondia and the Wintersblood Kingdom of Frostern, Lionmidden straddled the border and during the Golden Age was famous for being a land of great wealth and advancement. Merchants of all races, cultures and castes flocked to Lionmidden to earn their riches. Various mercantile dynasties grew fat and powerful over areas and settlements and so the merchant classes held votes on who would represent them as "noble" houses. House Kemp was one of these families voted into the highest echelons, just under House Blackstone, birthed from the earliest records of democratic values on Terralba. And such, the peoples of Lionmidden are very in tough with senses of democracy, liberty and justice despite still being a feudal society.

People of Lionmidden, coming from every race and culture known by the GWE, as a whole are a progressive and curious folk. The lively minds of the Lionmidden-folk account for the many great artist, architects, scholars, explorers, merchants, inventive geniuses, astronomers, diplomats and wizards for which Mylrondia is well renowned for.
